Lift Putter SEO/Worldwide data fed URLs query
August 29, 2010 @ 6:09:26 PM EST |

| |
A Search Engine is a tool or device used to find relevant information. Search engines consist of a spider, an index, relevancy algorithms, and search results.
Also known as a web crawler or robot, a search engine spider is an automated program that reads web pages and follows any links to other pages within the site. This is often referred to as a site being "spidered" or "crawled". As the spider goes through these pages, it records the words it finds on the pages. It makes notes about how many times each word appears, whether the words are weighted in certain ways, perhaps based on size, location, or HTML markup, and decides how relevant the words are based on the links that come in to the page, and on the general context of the page.
The index is a collection of data used as bank to search through to find a match to a user fed query. The larger search engines have billions of documents in their catalogs. When search engines search they search via reverse indexes by words and return results based on matching relevancy vectors.
Spiders start their journeys with a list of page URLs that have previously been added to their index (database). As it visits these pages, crawling the code and copy, it adds new pages (links) that it finds on the page to its index. The spider returns to the sites in its index on a regular basis, scanning for any changes. How often the spider returns is up to the search engines to decide. Website owners do have some control in how often a spider visits their site by making use of a robot.txt file. Search engines first look for this file before crawling a page further.
An index is like a giant catalogue or inventory of websites containing a copy of every web page and file that the spider finds. If a web page changes, this catalogue is updated with the new information. To give you an idea of the size of these indexes, the latest figure released by Google is 8 billion pages.
It sometimes takes a while for new pages or changes that the spider finds to be added to its index. Thus, a web page may have been "spidered" but not yet "indexed." Until a page is indexed - added to the index - spidered pages will not be available to those searching with the search engine.
Search engines then must weight the value of each page for the words that appear on it. This is the trickiest part of what a search engine has to do, but also the most important. At the most simple level a search engine could simply keep track of every word on the page, and record that page as relevant for searches with that keyword. This wouldn’t do much good for most users, however, as what is desired is the most relevant page for their search query.

?More texted messages are sent daily than the Worlds Population(Fact sheet data sent on request)
?Texted.asia was crashed during text to speech online language software change during the first few hours! Stan Krol/admin-tech-support/asian-index
Texting is becoming the #1 form of communication
When a Florida teen was arrested for savagely beating an eighth-grade girl, he said that rude text messages she'd sent him sparked his rage. This tragic incident mirrors similar stories in which teens' texting becomes hostile.
Cruelty is nothing new. But the anonymity of texting (in fact, the two teens involved in the Florida incident didn't know each other) fosters an environment where kids can say anything. Kids' actions seem detached from the consequences. And let's face it, teens' judgement and impulse control are not yet fully developed. The hostile exchanges, combined with instantaneous communication, can be very destructive.
Billions of text messages are sent every year from our kids' mobile phones. While most kids use messaging responsibly, it's still a powerful and extremely private communication tool that needs to be used responsibly. (For tips on how to text message) www.texted.mobi
Why understanding texting is important
Texting is totally portable, private, and immediate. Kids can send messages to anyone from anywhere at anytime. In other words, they have no boundaries unless we help them to establish some. Almost no research has been done on the impact of immediate communication on our kids' social development.
But the instant gratification factor of getting instantaneous responses from friends has to have some affect. Any parent who has been at the dinner table or on a hike with a child only to have their pockets buzz with an incoming message knows that texts take your kids out of the moment they are in and connect them to distant friends.
Texts can be used to keep friends close, help parents figure out family logistics, and offer a wonderful way to share experiences. But as with any powerful tool, texting can also be used to bully or humiliate people. An embarrassing or upsetting image or video can quickly be transmitted or uploaded to on online video sharing site like YouTube. Sexting is a form of texting where kids Kids have to know that the abusing the privilege of texting will have consequences. And sadly, the use of texting in school cheating is on the rise as answers can be swiftly passed from student to student.
Parent Tips
?Carefully evaluate whether or not your kids need texting on their cellphones. Just because other kids in their class have it doesn't mean your child needs it.
?If your kids do text, get an unlimited texting plan. Otherwise the charges mount up swiftly.
?Make rules around when and where. No texting during meals, during class, on family outings. Oh, and turn the phone OFF at night!
?Establish consequences for misuse. Cheating, inappropriate messages, sexual communication. These are all no-go's. Want to make your point? Take a kid's phone away for a week.
?Watch your own behavior. Parents are still kids' playbooks for right and wrong. If you text your kid during class and then turn around and tell that child that he or she can't do that, we send mixed messages.
?If you suspect your kids aren't texting appropriately, you can always look at their messages. Yes, it feels like snooping, but our first job as parents is to ensure our kids use powerful technologies safely and responsibly.

Heres your change said... October 24, 2010 @ 10:09:56 PM EST

Update: 4:40pm: "If everybody who fought for change in 2008 votes in 2010, Mark will win this election," President Barack Obama said. "In 2008, you said, 'Yes we can.' In 2010, you have to say, 'Yes we can.' "
That line led to the first chants of then-candidate Obama's famous 2008 rallying cry, this time for DFL gubernatorial candidate Mark Dayton.
It was pretty standard stump speech material from Obama, who repeated lines from other speeches he's delivered frequently on the campaign trail this year. Through much of his half-hour speech, he looked to tap into the force of the voting bloc that help get him elected two years ago.
Obama looked to define the race as one between the past (Republicans) and the future (Democrats), taking aim at Republican positions that he said lead to the economic disaster he's tried to fix through the first half of his term.
"I don't want to re-argue the past," he said. "I don't want to relive the past."
He said Congressional Republicans (whom many project to win back control of the House of Representatives this November) were "betting on amnesia" this election year.
Obama also touted Mark Dayton as a candidate. "He's been fighting for the people of the state his whole career," Obama said. The two served together in Congress from 2005 to early 2007.
University officials say 11,000 people attended the speech, between the Field House and the overflow seating area at the Sports Pavilion. Before the event, University President Robert Bruininks and his wife Dr. Susan Hagstrum met privately with Obama. Neither attended the decidedly-political event.
Thanks for following along today. Look for a recap of the president's visit on mndaily.com this afternoon, and pick up a special issue of the Daily on Monday.
-Devin Henry
Update: 3:25pm: Senior Sen. Amy Klobuchar spoke, saying Republicans are "all foam and no beer," and, per Twitter, more than 8,500 people have come to either the Field House or the Sports Pavilion. "Ain't No Stopping Us Now" is playing, and it looks like the traveling White House press have arrived. That always means the President is close ...
Update: 3:05pm:Sen. Al Franken ("the poster boy for close elections," he said) praised recently-passed health care reform and the stimulus package to rally the crowd as Obama heads toward Dinkytown.
When Obama took over, Franken said, the economy was on the edge of a cliff, with rocks and alligators below. Bush jumped out, he said, and Obama jumped in and took over.
Acoustics are pretty bad in here, so I'm paraphrasing and using Twitter to crowd-source. During Obama's speech, this blog will be silent, but look for an update after.
Update: 2:55pm: The Field House is full, according to the U. Overflow seating is going in the Sports Pavilion.
Update: 2:50pm:As Rebecca Otto leads off speeches from the state's DFL officials, we get word Air Force One has landed. Look for a photo soon, and avoid Interstate 35W North for a while so the motorcade can come through.
Update: 2:40pm: If the precincts around the U see the kind of voter turnout they did in 2008, the DFL will have to be very pleased.
In 2008, with a presidential election and an exciting Democrat at the top of the ticket, nearly 18,000 voted in the Minnesota House 59B district, which includes the University. Obama won 79 percent of the vote in the district, Al Franken won 65 percent, Keith Ellison 75 percent and state Rep. Phyllis Kahn 69 percent.
Two years earlier, with U.S. Senate and gubernatorial races, the district saw nearly 12,000 voters. The Democrats won with similar percentages as 2008.
As the polls show, the margin between the candidates in this gubernatorial race are slim. An extra couple of thousand votes either way could matter a lot. A visit from Obama, no doubt, will rally the base around the U.
The anthem has been sung and the program has begun. The U says it'll stream the President's address on the big screen at TCF Bank Stadium if you stuck around after the Gophers' loss.
Update: 1:55pm:The U is the last stop on a west coast swing for Obama, who has been rallying for candidates in California, Nevada and Washington state this week.
But when it comes to garnering votes for the candidates he's plugging, is he really doing that great of a job?
A Gallup poll from earlier this month shows that 39 percent of independent voters said an Obama endorsement actually lessens their likelihood to vote for a candidate, far more than the 12 percent who said they're more likely to vote for them. Bill Clinton, in town tomorrow for Tarryl Clark, has slightly better numbers, 21 percent for and 23 percent against.
A Rasmussen poll released yesterday shows Minnesota's race to be virtually deadlocked, with DFLer Mark Dayton holding a three-point lead over Republican Tom Emmer. Obama's rally is part of a Get Out The Vote effort on behalf of the Democrats, who are banking, as usual, on a large student turnout on Nov. 2.
We'll look at voter turnout next.
Update: 1:15pm: As UNEWS reports, the line to get into the rally does, in fact, stretch to the Washington Ave. Bridge. If you're familiar with the U's campus, you'll recognize this as the area in front of the new science classroom building.
1:05pm: Hello from the University Field House. Threats of rain drove this Barack Obama rally inside, but the sun shone as the lines of potential rally-goers wrapped around the Rec Center, through Northrop Mall, and onto the Washington Ave. Bridge.
But don't worry. If you can't get in, follow along here with us.
We'll be updating this blog live throughout the day, before, during and after the president's address, scheduled for around 3 p.m. We've got photographers at the airport waiting for Air Force One, reporters out covering the other candidates and any protests around campus, and, of course, at the rally itself. Stay tuned.

You Texted What?
R u a txtr? Text messaging has become one of the most common ways people communicate. Research conducted by Nielsen Wire, found that more than 2.5 billion texts are sent daily in the U.S. And according to a recent article on MSNBC.com’s Technoblog, 87% of teens and 72% of adults are text messaging.
Today, texting seems to be the communication tool of choice for many because it’s easy to do and quicker than calling someone to have a conversation. For example, you can send a quick text to tell someone something like C U @ 545 instead of getting caught in a long conversation.
But, texting isn’t just for personal use anymore. It’s being used more and more in the workplace and becoming a common communication tool between managers and employees. Some managers are OK with allowing employees to text to discuss work-related issues like taking a sick day, reporting a family emergency, or dropping a quick line to say they’re running late. But, are there some things that shouldn’t be texted? In the survey conducted by Nielsen Wire, it was also discovered that 11% of college students and recent college graduates think it’s OK to text a manager when resigning from a job.
As technology continues to change and more generations entering the workforce, communication on the job continues to change. As an employee, it’s important for you to know what your manager’s thoughts are and what your company’s policies and preferences outline regarding text messaging on the job.
Does your job already have texting rules in place? Would you or have you ever texted your boss to say you’re sick or that you’re resigning? Share your thoughts with us!

Titleist Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport 2 Putter--Making You Feel Like The Best Golfer
The Studio Select line is the result of Scotty Cameron's golf club Putter research and their drive to create a putter collection with the finest technical performance and incredible overall feel. The precision milled 303 Stainless Steel Newport putters feature an improved high toe profile and heel and toe circular sole weights that allow for numerous length options in each model.
The circular heel-toe weights provide amplified stability by reducing head rotation on off-centre impacts for a larger sweet spot. The factory adjustable weights are set to provide the proper headweight-to-shaft length combination. The improved high toe profile of the Studio Select Putters feature a stepless shaft for a clean look and offer a soft but solid feel and are equipped a new Scotty Cameron red cord grip.
Design
Tour proven Newport-style putters with bold red graphics, high toe profile, and heel & toe circular weights.
This is the golf club I most enjoy taking out of the bag. The balance, feel and looks instill confidence. Same basic design as my ols ping anser but much better feel. Awesome putter.
Amazing looking putter. better than the child like doodles of the studio design. perfectly weighted, feels so solid. everything about this putter gives you confidence from any distance. always when you change a club in your bag it takes time to get used to but its SO worth it. i look forward to getting to the green just to get it out the bag again. it makes you feel like a real golfer!
Good feel on center-hit putts. felt i was lifting the head up too much so added lead tape (ultimately 3 layers). now has good weight through the stroke. won pro shop credit in outing, so no out of pocket cost, so 5 stars on value for me, otherwise, ouch, not worth cost.
It is indeed a better way to have the golf clubs with a lower price and better control. At the web site http://www.stankrol.com they supply with customers golf clubs of golf wholesale method.

Hey Ibuycloseouts@hotmail.com, new data released this week shows that the nation’s largest banks are holding monstrous volumes of soured home loans. Not only has the housing crisis left major lenders knee-deep in an ocean of non-performers, but added exposure to early delinquencies means they could sink even deeper.
According to an analysis by Weiss Ratings, an independent ratings agency covering the financial sector, JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, and Wells Fargo each reported more than $20 billion in single-family mortgages currently foreclosed or in the process of foreclosure as of midyear.
In addition, Weiss found that for each dollar these banks held of mortgages in foreclosure, there were an additional $2 in loans in the pipeline that were 30 days or more past due.
Among all U.S. banks, JPMorgan Chase has the largest volume of mortgages in foreclosure or foreclosed with $21.7 billion. On top of that, the company has $43.4 billion more in mortgages past due.
Compared to JPMorgan, Bank of America has a somewhat smaller volume of foreclosures — $20.3 billion — but it has a larger pipeline of past-due mortgages at $54.6 billion.
Wells Fargo’s foreclosures come to $20.5 billion, with $48 billion in overdue home loans.
According to Weiss, including all foreclosed and delinquent categories, Bank of America has the largest volume of bad mortgages among U.S. banks, with $74.9 billion, while Wells Fargo has the second largest with $68.6 billion.
Other banks, despite their large size, are less heavily exposed to mortgage difficulties. Citibank has $6.3 billion in foreclosures and $19.2 billion in past-due mortgages, or a total of $25.6 billion.
The volume of foreclosures and delinquencies held by other large banks, such as U.S. Bank ($9.5 billion), PNC Bank ($8.9 billion), and SunTrust ($7.3 billion) is even smaller.
Martin D. Weiss, chairman of Weiss Ratings, said, “In addition to the volume of bad mortgages, the vulnerability of each bank to the foreclosure crisis depends on the capital and loan loss reserves it has set aside to cover losses and other factors such as its earnings, liquidity, reliance on less-stable deposits, and the quality of its overall loan portfolio.”
Among banks with $1 billion or more of mortgages already foreclosed or in process of foreclosure, Weiss found that Wells Fargo has the greatest exposure to bad mortgages in proportion to its capital. For each dollar of Tier 1 Capital, the bank has 75.4 cents in bad mortgages, or a ratio of 75.4 percent.
The equivalent ratios for JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, and SunTrust are 66.8 percent, 66 percent, and 57.6 percent, respectively.
Weiss explained that losses on foreclosures and past-due loans will first be absorbed by the banks’ loan loss reserves, but then they may have to dip into capital.
“Considering that many large banks also take other kinds of risks beyond strictly home mortgages,” Weiss said, “these are very large exposures that could directly impact shareholders and even the safety of depositors.”
Reflecting both their exposure to foreclosures and the other economic factors, the JPMorgan, BofA, and Wells all merit a rating of D (“weak”) or lower from Weiss Ratings, indicating vulnerability to financial difficulties and instability if conditions continue to deteriorate.

The mounting shadow inventory will cause further erosion for years to come for US housing prices, which are already suffering from depressed demand. Delays in servicing distressed properties are adding to a cumulative supply of unsold homes that is 3 times the normal level.
Shadow inventory continues to climb, and there is now an eight-months supply of these homes, according to CoreLogic (CLGX: 18.52 +0.49%).
The data analytics firm said the number of homes seriously delinquent, in foreclosure or REO and not on multiple listing services rose to 2.1 million units as of August, up from 1.9 million, or a five-month supply, a year earlier.
"The weak demand for housing is significantly increasing the risk of further price declines in the housing market," CoreLogic chief economist Mark Fleming said. "This is being exacerbated by a significant and growing shadow inventory that is likely to persist for some time due to the highly extended time-to-liquidation that servicers are currently experiencing."
The visible inventory of new and existing homes through August remained flat with the year ago at 4.2 million units and is now at 15 months of supply, CoreLogic said. But the increased shadow inventory boosted the total supply of unsold homes by 3% to 6.3 million or 23 months from 6.1 million or 17 months.
"Although it can vary and it depends on the market and real estate cycle, typically a reading of six to seven months is considered normal so the current total months’ supply is roughly three times the normal rate," according to CoreLogic.
The company said Florida, California and Michigan continue to have the highest ratio of delinquent properties to sales, and Texas, "which largely bypassed the housing boom and subsequent bust," has the lowest distressed supply.
Earlier in November, Altos Research said the impact of shadow inventory looms large on the housing market.
The firm reported steep declines in housing prices in the areas hit hardest by the bubble burst of three years ago, while Amherst Securities said default rates rose for the first time this year in October.
In September, Standard & Poor's said shadow inventory represents one-third of the nonagency residential mortgage-backed securities market and will negatively pressure housing prices until the backlog clears in more than three years' time. Analysts expect it to take 40 months to work through the inventory of mortgages.

Paid per click and SEO Expert free training this week! Lift Putter and Texted are key combos.. Stan Krol/CEO is up 635% Today!!! Search engine optimization is what SEO stands for. It is a method, technique, or process of enhancing the rank of one's website when searched on Google, Yahoo, and Bing or any other search engine. Optimization is done through organic or real searches wherein its main goal is to put your site on the first few pages of Google search results for a particular keyword or phrase. The higher and the more frequent your site appears on the first two or three pages of any search engines, the greater the chances your site will be visited by internet users. The types of search results can vary from local, global, and video searches to industry-specific vertical search engines. Harnessing the power of SEO can build up your online presence and can do wonders for your site. There are many ways to search optimize your site. It can be onsite SEO or offsite SEO. Onsite optimization is usually integrated in your website design for example using meta tags, keywords, or labels in your web content or editing your html and coding to make it relevant to target keywords. Offsite optimization includes creating and increasing your back links and inbound links, especially if you are linking to high PR sites. Blogging, forum posting, and social bookmarking are also ways to promote your site and increase traffic to it. SEO can also refer to Search Engine Optimizers a term given to consultants who provides optimization projects or persons who perform SEO services in house on behalf of clients or site owners. Hiring an SEO company can be done online. Some of them can even come from any parts of the world. This is a trend that has been going on now and will be for many years to come. The internet has greatly influenced our lives, the way we communicate, do business, socialize and how we work is also affected by it, in a good way. Site optimisation services can be a part of a marketing package or a standalone service. As mentioned optimization can be integrated in every element of web design such as the site’s menus, articles, content, videos, and images. Another kind of SEO technique is the black hat method. The most popular example of this method is spamming. This type of technique is discouraged because it can destroy search experiences of net users and search result relevance. Usually your site can be removed from Google indices when they found out that you are using black hat technique. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to golf club design, and more particularly to a club design that includes a new ball pickup feature.
In the game of golf, a player puts the ball into play at the tee of each hole, and the ball is not handled by the player (assuming no strokes hit out of bounds or into hazards) until it is picked up from the cup on the green. Generally, the golfer must bend or kneel to reach the ball, which rests in the hole below ground level. There is a significant number of golfers who, due to lack of agility, age, fatigue, or other factors find it difficult to retrieve the ball from the ground or from the cup.
In recent years putters have been devised that include a feature for retrieving the ball from the ground without requiring bending effort of the golfer. This utilitarian feature generally comprises a rear surface portion opposed to the striking surface of the club head that enables the golfer to scoop a ball from the ground and flip it upwardly to be caught. Although this feature is a great convenience, it cannot be used with a ball that has fallen in the cup, due to the lack of lateral clearance required to scoop the ball. As a result, a golfer using a putter so equipped must first dislodge the ball from the cup by working the putter blade around inside the cup. This technique can be ineffective and frustrating, and may result in damage to the lip of the cup and the surrounding putting green turf.
Accordingly, the ball-retrieving features of prior art putters is inadequate and in need of improvement.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention generally comprises a golf putter design that enables a golfer to retrieve a ball from the ground as well as from a cup. The invention also permits retaining the ball in the club head for engaging, lifting, carrying, and releasing and tossing the ball, as needed or desired by the golfer.
The golf putter design includes a club head comprised of a horizontally extending body having a front striking surface at one end. The club shaft is joined to the club head at an upper surface of the body. A ball pickup structure includes a concave recess extending into a rear end surface of the body, the concave recess having a generally cylindrical conformation and a radius of curvature that closely approximates the radius of a standard golf ball. The concave recess is a slot-like aperture extending from the upper to lower surfaces of the body, along an axis that extends upwardly generally parallel to the striking surface.
The ball pickup assembly further includes a pair of resilient fingers secured to the rear end surface of the body and spaced apart to straddle the concave recess. The distal ends of the fingers are disposed in confronting, closely spaced relationship. The fingers include curved interior surface portions disposed in confronting relationship to the concave recess, the interior surface portions also having radii of curvature closely approximating the radius of a standard golf ball. The upper surfaces of the fingers taper toward the lower surfaces from the rear end surface of the body to the distal ends of the fingers. The outer surfaces of the fingers blend with the outer side surface contours of the body to form smoothly and continuously curved side and rear body surfaces that have a diameter less than the diameter of a standard golf hole cup.
The fingers and the concave recess together define a lower opening having sufficient lateral width (side-to-side) to receive a golf ball, and a longitudinal (front-to-back) dimension slightly less than a golf ball diameter. By wielding the club from the handle end, the lower opening may be placed superjacent to a golf ball and the club head urged downwardly so that the ball is moved relatively upwardly into the lower opening. The curved ball surface urges the distal ends of the resilient fingers to flex outwardly, effecting sufficient clearance to permit the ball to pass into the lower opening and move upwardly along the axis of the concave recess. The distal ends of the fingers maintain a resilient, frictional contact with the ball and urge the ball surface into impingement with the curved sidewall of the concave recess and thereby asserting a gripping effect. Once the nominal equator of the ball is disposed above the fingers, the ball is retained within the recess and may be lifted with the club head, whereby the user may retrieve, carry and transport the ball.
The invention further includes a ball release feature operatively associated with the ball pickup feature. A thin lip is formed smoothly and continuously with the upper surface of the club head body, the lip extending rearwardly into the upper end of the concave recess. The lip is provided with a smoothly curved peripheral edge which defines an upper opening that is narrower than the concave recess in the front-to-back dimension.
The lip serves as a positional stop for the ball pickup feature described above. When the nominal equator of the golf ball is urged into the lower end of the concave recess, the ball translates upwardly until it impinges on the curved edge of the lip. In this pickup position the ball is gripped by the distal ends of the resilient fingers against the curved surface of the concave recess, as described above, and the ball is lodged in the ball pickup feature. Also, a small portion of the ball extends downwardly from the concave recess below the lower surface of the club head body.
The ball release feature involves moving the ball lodged in the pickup position to a release position in which the ball is supported by, but not secured to the club head. With a ball lodged in the first position, the club may be wielded by the handle to urge the protruding portion of the ball against the ground or floor surface. This is done most easily by placing the lower front edge of the club head and the protruding ball against the ground surface, and rocking the club head downwardly and rearwardly to increase the pressure on the protruding ball. The ball is thus urged relatively upwardly in the concave recess to the release position, in which a nominal equator of the ball is disposed above a plane extending through the lip and the distal ends of the fingers. The lip and the distal ends of the fingers support the ball, and the upper opening of the concave recess forms a receptacle that receives a lower portion of the ball and thus stabilizes the ball. The ball is not frictionally retained or otherwise gripped in any way, and may be removed by tilting the club head to cause the ball to roll out of the receptacle. Alternatively, the club head may be flipped upwardly to toss the ball out of the receptacle and be caught by the golfer.
The resilient fingers further comprise a mass of vibration absorbing and acoustic dampening material that is intimately secured to the rear surface of the club head. Vibration generated at the front striking surface by impact with a golf ball is conducted with little loss to the rear surface of the club head, where it is dampened and absorbed to a significant extent by the mass and conformation of the resilient fingers. As a result, the vibrational resonance through the club head and shaft are reduced, leading to a more accurate ball trajectory and better feel for the stroke by the player. Thus the ball pickup and release features of the invention synergistically improve the performance of the club.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
The present invention generally comprises a golf club construction that enables a golfer to retrieve a ball from the ground as well as from a cup. This function is carried out by a structure that does no interfere nor limit the use of the club to strike a golf ball. The invention also permits retaining the ball in the club head for engaging, lifting, carrying, and releasing and tossing the ball, as needed or desired by the golfer. Although the invention may be applied to a variety of clubs, including irons and woods, it will be described with reference to a golf putter.
With regard to the accompanying Figures, and FIGS. 1-6 in particular, a golf putter 21 includes a club head 22 and a club shaft 23 extending upwardly from the club head. The club head 22 includes a body 24 extending generally horizontally and having a planar striking surface 26 at the front end thereof. As shown in FIG. 1, the body 24 is generally ellipsoid in the lateral (side-to-side) aspect. The opposed side surfaces 27 and 28 (FIGS. 5 and 6) are curved, and the rear surface 29 of the body is planar and generally parallel to the striking surface 26. This body conformation facilitates implementation of the ball pickup and ball release features, but other club head body shapes and styles may be used without diverging from the teaching or spirit of the invention.
The ball pickup structure of the invention includes a concave recess 31 extending into the rear surface 29 of the body 24. The concave recess is a slotted aperture extending from the upper to lower surfaces of the body, along an axis that extends upwardly generally parallel to the striking surface. The recess 31 has a curved, generally cylindrical sidewall 32 extending along an axis of symmetry that is generally parallel to the plane of the striking surface 26. The radius of curvature of the sidewall 32 closely approximates the radius of a standard golf ball. The concave recess 31 extends from the bottom surface to the top surface of the body 24.
The ball pickup structure further includes a pair of resilient fingers 33 secured to the rear surface 29 of the body 24, the fingers disposed in spaced apart fashion to straddle the concave recess. The fingers 33 include distal ends 34 disposed in confronting, closely spaced relationship. The fingers include curved interior surfaces portions 36 that smoothly blend with the curvature of the sidewall 32 and are provided with similar radii of curvature. The outer surfaces 37 of the fingers blend with the contours of the side surfaces 27 and 28 of the body to form an assembly having smoothly and continuously curved side and rear body surfaces that have a diameter less than the diameter of a standard golf hole cup. The upper surfaces 38 of the fingers taper toward the lower surfaces from the rear surface 29 of the body to the distal ends 34 of the fingers.
The resilient fingers 33 may be formed of an elastic, deformable substance such as rubber, polymer plastic, or the like. Alternatively, the entire body and fingers may be cast or otherwise formed in integrally of a material that permits elastic flexure of the distal ends 34 of the fingers.
The resilient fingers 33 and the rigid sidewall 32 of the concave recess together define a lower opening 41 having sufficient lateral width (side-to-side) to receive a golf ball, and a longitudinal (front-to-back) dimension slightly less than a golf ball diameter. Thus sufficient clearance for a ball translating through the opening 41 can be obtained only by outward flexure of the distal ends 34 of the fingers 33.
To employ the ball pickup feature of the golf club, the club is wielded from the handle end and maneuvered to place the club head 22 over a golf ball 50 on the ground, with the lower opening 41 directly superjacent to the ball, as shown in phantom line in FIG. 8. The club head 22 is urged downwardly so that the ball 50 is moved relatively upwardly into the lower opening 41. The curved surface of the upper extent of the ball 50 impinges on the distal ends 34 of the fingers 33 and urges the distal ends 34 to flex outwardly, creating sufficient clearance to permit the ball 50 to pass into the lower opening 41 and translate upwardly along the axis of the concave recess 31.
The distal ends 34 of the fingers exert a resilient, frictional contact with the ball 50 and urge the surface of the ball into impingement with the curved sidewall 32, thereby asserting a gripping effect and securing the ball 50. Once any nominal equator of the ball is disposed above the finger ends 34, the ball 50 is retained within the recess 31, as shown in FIGS. 7 and 8, and may be lifted with the club head, whereby the user may retrieve, carry and transport the ball. Thus a golf ball 50 resting on the ground may be gripped and lifted from the ground, without recourse to bending or kneeling.
A further aspect of the invention comprises a ball release feature that functions in conjunction with the ball pickup feature. With regard to FIGS. 3, 4, and 12, a thin flange or lip 51 extends into the upper opening 52 of the concave recess 31. The lip 51 extends smoothly and continuously with the upper surface of the club head body, and includes a smoothly curved peripheral edge 53. The curvature of the edge 53 is conformal with the curvature of the sidewall 32 at their mutual intersections. The edge 53 defines with the interior surfaces 36 of the fingers an upper clearance that is slightly narrower than the diameter of a ball 50, and is also slightly narrower than the lower opening 41.
One function of the lip 51 is a positional stop for the ball pickup feature described above. When any golf ball 50 is urged into the lower end of the concave recess, the ball translates upwardly until it impinges on the curved edge 53 of the lip 51, as shown in FIG. 8. In this pickup position the ball 50 is gripped by the distal ends 34 of the resilient fingers against the curved surface 32, as described above, and the ball is lodged in the ball pickup structure. Also, a small portion of the ball 50 extends downwardly from the concave recess below the bottom surface of the club head body 24.
The ball release feature involves moving the ball 50 lodged in the pickup position to a release position in which the ball is supported by, but not secured to the club head. With a ball lodged in the pickup position, as in FIGS. 9 and 12, the club may be wielded by the handle to urge the protruding portion of the ball against a ground or floor surface, forcing the ball upwardly to the position shown in FIG. 10. In another method, the lower front edge of the striking surface 26 is placed on the ground (FIG. 9), with the protruding ball impinging on the ground surface. By rocking the club head downwardly and rearwardly to increase the pressure on the protruding ball, the ball 50 is urged relatively upwardly in the concave recess to the release position, as shown in FIG. 10. In the release position a nominal equator of the ball is disposed above a plane extending from the lip edge 53 to the distal ends 34 of the fingers. The lip 51 and the distal ends of the fingers support the ball from below, and the upper opening 52 of the concave recess forms a receptacle in which the ball nestles to stabilize the ball. The ball 50 is not frictionally retained or otherwise gripped or detained, except by gravital effect, and may be removed by tilting the club head to cause the ball to roll out of the receptacle. Alternatively, the club head 22 may be flipped upwardly to toss the ball 50 out of the receptacle to be caught by the golfer.
The conformation of the body 24, together with the ball pickup feature and the ball release feature, provides a further functional aspect to the invention. The spacing and curvature of the side surfaces 27 and 28, together with the curved outer surfaces 38 of the fingers 33, define a shape that is received within a golf hole cup 61, as shown in FIG. 11. The curved sides prevent damage to the cup, while permitting a full-width putting face 26. This dimensional relationship permits the use of the ball pickup feature within the cup 61, whereby a golf ball may be retrieved from the cup without bending or reaching by merely wielding and simply manipulating the golf club. The club head is placed in the cup with the lower opening over the ball, which gravitates to the center of the cup. The club is rocked rearwardly so that the fingers 33 engage the ball 50 and hold the ball in the pickup position, as described previously. The club is then rocked forwardly and lifted vertically to remove the club head and ball from the cup.
A further advantage of the invention resides in the vibration absorbing and acoustic dampening properties of the resilient fingers 33, which are formed of an elastic, deformable substance such as rubber, polymer plastic, or the like. The fingers receive vibration generated at the front striking surface and transmitted through the club head 24 to the rear surface 29 thereof. Vibrational energy is absorbed to a significant extent by the mass and shape of the fingers 33, reducing resonance and providing an improved feel for the stroke by the player. Moreover, the ball trajectory is improved by reducing vibration at the striking surface during the ball impact portion of the stroke.
The foregoing description of the preferred embodiment of the invention has been presented for purposes of illustration and description. It is not intended to be exhaustive or to limit the invention to the precise form disclosed, and many modifications and variations are possible in light of the above teaching without deviating from the spirit and the scope of the invention. The embodiment described is selected to best explain the principles of the invention and its practical application to thereby enable others skilled in the art to best utilize the invention in various embodiments and with various modifications as suited to the particular purpose contemplated. It is intended that the scope of the invention be defined by the claims appended hereto.

The point I emphasis, is that whilst we are most efficient, cost effective and amenable to negotiation, we are in the luxury market, do not cut corners, do not deviate from our terms and conditions nor do we drop our fees or standards. If an owner wishes to proceed, they must provide an up-front advance on costs to mobilize or we just do not proceed.
Most sincerely yours in hospitality,

Dear Stanley Krol,
Your privacy and trust are important to us, so we want to make sure you know what we do to make PayPal the best way to pay and get paid online. Part of that job is keeping your financial information private.
Each year we send you a copy of our privacy policy to answer questions and explain exactly how we collect, use and protect your information. Please look it over. You can also view the privacy policy online at any time by clicking the Privacy link at the bottom of any PayPal page.
We also want to make sure you know how to report unauthorized transactions or other errors in payments made using PayPal’s services. Please take a few minutes to review our annual Error Resolution Notice. It explains what to do if you discover an error and outlines your rights for resolving issues. Please keep a copy for your records. For more information, please see section 12 of the PayPal User Agreement (Resolution Procedures for Unauthorized Transactions and Other Errors).
In an electronic world, online privacy and fraud protection are vital. If you’d like to know more about how to protect yourself, the PayPal Security Center offers a variety of powerful fraud-fighting tips, tools, and technology. You can find the Security Center by clicking the Security and Protection link at the top of any PayPal page or you can contact us with questions through the Contact Us link at the bottom of any page.

How we use cookies
When you access our website, we, or companies we hire to track how our website is used, may place small data files called "cookies" on your computer. We and our service providers also use cookies to customize the PayPal Services, content and advertising; measure promotional effectiveness, and promote trust and safety.
We send a "session cookie" to your computer when you log in to your account or otherwise use the PayPal Services. This type of cookie helps us to recognize you if you visit multiple pages on our site during the same session, so that we don’t need to ask you for your password on each page. Once you log out or close your browser, this cookie expires and no longer has any effect.
We also use longer-lasting cookies for other purposes such as to display your e-mail address on our sign-in form, so that you don't need to retype the e-mail address each time you log in to your account.
We encode our cookies so that only we can interpret the information stored in them. You are free to decline our cookies if your browser permits, but doing so may interfere with your use of our website. We may also collect information about your computer or other access device to mitigate risk and for fraud prevention purposes.
You may encounter cookies from third parties when using the PayPal Services on websites that we do not control (for example, if you view a web page created by a third party or use an application developed by a third party, there may be a cookie placed by that web page or application.)
How we protect and store personal information
Throughout this policy, we use the term "personal information" to describe information that can be associated with a specific person and can be used to identify that person. We do not consider personal information to include information that has been anonymized so that it does not identify a specific user.
We store and process your personal information on our computers in the US and elsewhere in the world where PayPal facilities are located, and we protect it by maintaining physical, electronic and procedural safeguards in compliance with applicable US federal and state regulations. We use computer safeguards such as firewalls and data encryption, we enforce physical access controls to our buildings and files, and we authorize access to personal information only for those employees who require it to fulfill their job responsibilities.
How we use the personal information we collect
Our primary purpose in collecting personal information is to provide you with a secure, smooth, efficient, and customized experience. We may use your personal information to:
• provide the PayPal Services and customer support you request;
• process transactions and send notices about your transactions;
• resolve disputes, collect fees, and troubleshoot problems;
• prevent potentially prohibited or illegal activities, and enforce our User Agreement;
• customize, measure, and improve the PayPal Services and the content and layout of our
website and applications;
• deliver targeted marketing, service update notices, and promotional offers based on your
communication preferences;
• compare information for accuracy and verify it with third parties.
Marketing
We don't sell or rent your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes without your explicit consent. We may combine your information with information we collect from other companies and use it to improve and personalize the PayPal Services, content and advertising. If you don't wish to receive marketing communications from us or participate in our ad-customization programs, simply indicate your preference by logging into your account and going to the Profile subtab under the My Account tab and adjusting your preferences under Account Information, or by following the directions provided with the communication or advertisement.
How we share personal information with other PayPal users
To process your payments, we may share some of your personal information with the person or company that you are paying or that is paying you. Your contact information, date of sign-up, the number of payments you have received from verified PayPal users, and whether you have verified control of a bank account are provided to other PayPal users who you transact with through PayPal. In addition, this and other information may also be shared with third parties when you use these third parties to access the PayPal Services. Unless you have agreed to it, these third parties are not allowed to use this information for any purpose other than to enable the PayPal Services.
If you are buying goods or services and pay through PayPal, we may also provide the seller with your confirmed credit card billing address to help complete your transaction with the seller. The seller is not allowed to use this information to market their services to you unless you have agreed to it. If an attempt to pay your seller fails, or is later invalidated, we may also provide your seller with details of the unsuccessful payment. To facilitate dispute resolutions, we may provide a buyer with the seller’s address so that goods can be returned to the seller.
We work with third parties, including merchants, to enable them to accept or facilitate payments from or to you using PayPal. In doing so, a third party may share information about you with us, such as your email address or mobile phone number to inform you that a payment is sent to you or when you attempt to pay that merchant or through that third party. We use this information to confirm to that you are a PayPal customer and that PayPal as a form of payment can be enabled, or where a payment is sent to you to send you notification that you have received a payment. Also, if you request that we validate your status as a PayPal customer with a third party, we will do so. Please note that merchants you buy from and contract with have their own privacy policies, and PayPal may not be held responsible for their operations, including, but not limited to, their information practices.

of our policies, and to guide decisions about their products, services and communications.
Members of our corporate family will use this information to send you marketing
communications only if you have requested their services.
• Service providers under contract who help with parts of our business operations such as
fraud prevention, bill collection, marketing, and technology services. Our contracts

services they perform for us and not for their own benefit.
• Financial institutions that we partner with to jointly create and offer a product such as the
PayPal Plus credit card where we share information with GE Money Bank to determine

financial institutions may only use this information to market PayPal-related products,
unless you have given consent for other uses.

we will require that the new combined entity follow this privacy policy with respect to your
personal information. If your personal information could be used contrary to this policy,
you will receive prior notice.)

? we are compelled to do so by a subpoena, court order or similar legal procedure

violations of our User Agreement.

If we need more time, we may take up to 45 days to complete our investigation (or up to 90 days for new accounts, point of sale or foreign initiated transactions).
If we decide that we need more time to complete our investigation (as explained directly above), we will provisionally credit your account for the amount of the suspected error. Mitt Romney Poll data said... January 03, 2012 @ 9:54:42 PM EST

Willard Mitt Romney (born March 12, 1947) is an American businessman and politician. He was the 70th Governor of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007 and is a candidate for the 2012 Republican Party presidential nomination.
The son of George W. Romney (the former Governor of Michigan) and Lenore Romney, Mitt Romney was raised in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and later served as a Mormon missionary in France. He received his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University, and thereafter earned Juris Doctor/Master of Business Administration joint degrees from Harvard's law and business schools. Romney entered the management consulting business, which led to a position at Bain & Company, where he eventually served as CEO and brought the company out of crisis. He was also co-founder and head of the spin-off company Bain Capital, a private equity investment firm that became highly profitable and one of the largest such firms in the nation. The wealth Romney accumulated there would help fund his future political campaigns. He was very active in his church, serving as ward bishop and later stake president in his area. He ran as the Republican candidate in the 1994 U.S. Senate election in Massachusetts, losing to incumbent Ted Kennedy. Romney organized and steered the 2002 Winter Olympics as head of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee, and helped turn the troubled games into a financial success.
Romney was elected Governor of Massachusetts in 2002, but did not seek reelection in 2006. He presided over a series of spending cuts and increases in fees that eliminated a projected $3 billion deficit. He also signed into law the Massachusetts health care reform legislation, which provided near-universal health insurance access via subsidies and state-level mandates and was the first of its kind in the nation. During the course of his political career, his positions or rhetorical emphasis have shifted more towards American conservatism in several areas.
Romney ran for the Republican nomination in the 2008 U.S. presidential election, winning several primaries and caucuses, but eventually losing the nomination to John McCain. In the following years he gave speeches and raised campaign funds on behalf of fellow Republicans. On June 2, 2011, Romney announced that he would seek the 2012 Republican presidential nomination. Political observers and public opinion polls consistently place him among the front-runners in the race.

Early life and educationHeritage and youthFurther information: Pratt–Romney family
Romney was born in Detroit, Michigan.[1] He was the youngest child of George W. Romney, who by 1948 had become an automobile executive, and Lenore Romney. His mother was a native of Logan, Utah, and his father had been born in a Mormon colony in Chihuahua, Mexico, to American parents.[2] Romney's ancestry is predominantly English, as well as Scottish and German.[3] As a sixth-generation member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,[4][5] Romney is descended from a genealogically interconnected political family sometimes known as the Pratt–Romneys.
The three siblings before him were Margo Lynn, Jane LaFount, and G. Scott,[6] followed by Mitt after a gap of six years.[7] Romney was named after hotel magnate J. Willard Marriott, his father's best friend, and his father's cousin Milton "Mitt" Romney, 1925–1929 quarterback for the Chicago Bears.[8][nb 1] When he was five, the family moved from Detroit to the affluent suburb of Bloomfield Hills.[10] His father became CEO of American Motors and turned the company around from the brink of bankruptcy; by the time he was twelve, his father had become a nationally known figure in print and on television.[11] Romney idolized his father, read automotive trade magazines, kept abreast of automotive developments, and aspired to be an executive in the industry himself one day.[10][12][13] His father also presided over the Detroit Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to which the family belonged.[14]
Mitt Romney overlooks the Chrysler exhibit at the 1964 New York World's Fair with his father, Michigan governor George Romney.Romney went to public elementary schools[9] and then from seventh grade on, attended Cranbrook School in Bloomfield Hills, a private boys preparatory school of the classic mold where he was the lone Mormon and where many students came from even more privileged backgrounds.[10][15][16][17] He was not particularly athletic and at first did not excel at academics.[10] While a sophomore, he participated in the campaign in which his father was elected Governor of Michigan.[nb 2] George Romney was re-elected twice; Mitt worked for him as an intern in the governor's office, and was present at the 1964 Republican National Convention when his moderate father battled conservative party nominee Barry Goldwater over issues of civil rights and ideological extremism.[10][12] Romney had a steady set of chores and worked summer jobs, including being a security guard at a Chrysler plant.[15]
Initially a manager for the ice hockey team and a pep squad member,[15][18] during his final year at Cranbook, Romney joined the cross country running team[9] and improved academically, but was still not a star pupil.[10][16] His social skills were strong, however, and he won an award for those "whose contributions to school life are often not fully recognized through already existing channels".[16] Romney was an energetic child who enjoyed pranks.[nb 3]
In March of his senior year, he began dating Ann Davies, two years behind him, whom he had once known in elementary school;[20][21] she attended the private Kingswood School, the sister school to Cranbrook.[16] The two informally agreed to marriage around the time of his June 1965 graduation.[10][21]
University, France mission, marriage and children: 1965–1975Romney attended Stanford University for a year.[10] Although the campus was becoming radicalized with the beginnings of 1960s social and political movements, he kept a well-groomed appearance and enjoyed traditional campus events.[10] In May 1966, he was part of a counter-protest against a group staging a sit-in in the university administration building in opposition to draft status tests.[10][22] He worked as a security guard again in order to fund secret trips home to see Ann.[23]
In July 1966, Romney left for 30 months in France as a Mormon missionary, a traditional duty that his father and other relatives had done.[10][24][25] He arrived in Le Havre with ideas about how to change and promote the French Mission, while facing physical and economic deprivation in their cramped quarters.[25][26] Rules against drinking, smoking, and dating were strictly enforced.[26] Like most individual Mormon missionaries, he did not gain many converts, with the nominally Catholic but secular, wine-loving French people proving especially resistant to a religion that prohibits alcohol.[10][25][26][27] He became demoralized, and later recalled it as the only time when "most of what I was trying to do was rejected."[25] In Nantes, Romney was bruised defending two female missionaries against a horde of local rugby players.[26] He continued to work hard; having grown up in Michigan rather than the more insular Utah world, Romney was better able to interact with the French.[17][26] He was promoted to zone leader in Bordeaux in early 1968, then in the spring of that year became assistant to the mission president in Paris, the highest position for a missionary.[25][26][28] In the Mission Home in Paris he enjoyed palace-like accommodations.[28] Romney's support for the U.S. role in the Vietnam War was only reinforced when the French greeted him with hostility over the matter and he debated them in return.[25][26] He also witnessed the May 1968 general strike and student uprisings.[25]
In June 1968, an automobile Romney was driving in southern France was hit by another vehicle, seriously injuring him and killing one of his passengers, the wife of the mission president.[nb 4] Romney, who was not at fault in the accident,[nb 4] became co-acting president of a mission demoralized and disorganized by the May civil disturbances and by the car accident.[17] Romney rallied and motivated the others and they met an ambitious goal of 200 baptisms for the year, the most for the mission in a decade.[17] By the end of his stint in December 1968, Romney was overseeing the work of 175 fellow members.[25][29] Romney developed a lifelong affection for France and its people, and speaks French.[31] The experience in the country also changed him. It instilled in him a belief that life is fragile and that he needed seriousness of purpose. He also gained organizational experience and a record of success that he had theretofore lacked.[10][17][26][29] It also represented a crucible, after having been only a half-hearted Mormon growing up: "On a mission, your faith in Jesus Christ either evaporates or it becomes much deeper. For me it became much deeper."[25]
While he was away, Ann Davies had converted to the LDS Church, guided by George Romney, and had begun attending Brigham Young University.[10][21] Mitt was nervous that she had been wooed by others while he was away, and indeed she had dated others, but at their first meeting following his return they reconnected and decided to get married in two weeks but agreed to wait three months to appease their parents.[21][32] They were married on March 21, 1969, in a Bloomfield Hills civil ceremony presided over by a church elder; the following day the couple flew to Utah for a wedding ceremony at the Salt Lake Temple.[32][33]
Both Mitt and Ann Romney went to college at Brigham Young, where he gave the commencement address at graduation.Romney began attending Brigham Young too.[9] He had missed much of the tumultuous American anti-Vietnam War movement while away, and was surprised to learn that his father had turned against the war during his ill-fated 1968 presidential campaign.[25] Regarding the military draft, Romney had initially gotten a student deferment, then like most other Mormon missionaries had received a ministerial deferment while in France, then got another student deferment.[25][34] When those ran out, his high number in the December 1969 draft lottery (300) meant he would not be selected.[13][25][34][35]
At culturally conservative Brigham Young, Romney continued to be separated from much of the upheaval of the era, and did not join in the few protests against the war or the LDS Church's policy at the time of denying full membership to blacks.[13][25] He became president and successful fundraiser for the all-male Cougar Club and showed a new-found discipline in his studies.[25] In his senior year he took leave to work as driver and advance man for his mother Lenore Romney's eventually unsuccessful 1970 campaign for U.S. Senator from Michigan.[13][32] He graduated from Brigham Young in 1971, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English and giving commencement addresses to both his own College of Humanities and to the whole university.[nb 5]
The Romneys' first son, Tagg, was born in 1970[32] while both were undergraduates at Brigham Young[37] and living in a basement apartment.[25] They subsequently welcomed Matt (1971), Josh (1975), Ben (1978), and Craig (1981).[32] Ann Romney's work as a stay-at-home mom would enable her husband to pursue his career.[38]
Romney still wanted to pursue a business path, but his father, by now serving in President Richard Nixon's cabinet as U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, advised that a law degree would be valuable.[39][40] Thus Romney became one of only fifteen students to enroll at the recently created joint Juris Doctor/Master of Business Administration four-year program coordinated between Harvard Law School and Harvard Business School.[41] Fellow students considered Romney guilelessly optimistic, noting his strong work ethic along with a buttoned-down demeanor and appearance.[41][42] He readily adapted to the business school's pragmatic, data-driven case study method of teaching, excelled in classroom participation there, and led a study group whom he pushed to get all A's.[40] He had a different social experience than most of his classmates, since he lived in a Belmont, Massachusetts, house with Ann and by now two children; he was non-ideological and did not involve himself in the political or social issues of the day.[32][40] He graduated in 1975 cum laude from the law school, in the top third of that class, and was named a Baker Scholar for graduating in the top five percent of his business school class.[36][41]
Business careerRomney was heavily recruited and, after graduation, chose to remain in Massachusetts and go to work for Boston Consulting Group (BCG), thinking that working as a management consultant to a variety of companies would prepare him for a future job as a chief executive.[15][39][43][nb 6] Romney was part of a 1970s wave of top graduates who chose to go into consulting rather than join a major company directly.[45] Romney's legal and business education proved useful in his job, and he became a rising star[39] while applying BCG principles such as the growth-share matrix.[4]
In 1977, he was hired away by Bain & Company, a management consulting firm in Boston that had been formed a few years earlier by Bill Bain and other former BCG employees.[39][4][46] Bain would later say of the thirty-year-old Romney, "He had the appearance of confidence of a guy who was maybe ten years older."[47] With Bain & Company, Romney learned the "Bain way", which consisted of immersing the firm in each client's business,[39][47] and not simply to issue recommendations, but to stay with the company until they were changed for the better.[4][46][48] With a record of helping clients such as the Monsanto Company, Outboard Marine Corporation, Burlington Industries, and Corning Incorporated, Romney became a vice president of the firm in 1978 and within a few years one of its best consultants.[9][39][43] Romney became a believer in Bain's methods; he later said, "The idea that consultancies should not measure themselves by the thickness of their reports, or even the elegance of their writing, but rather by whether or not the report was effectively implemented was an inflection point in the history of consulting."[46]
Logo of company that Romney co-foundedRomney was restless for a company of his own to run, and in 1983 Bill Bain offered him the chance to head a new venture that would buy into companies, have them benefit from Bain techniques, and then reap higher rewards than just consulting fees.[39][4] Romney initially refrained from accepting the offer, and Bain re-arranged the terms in a complicated partnership structure so that there was no financial or professional risk to Romney.[39][47][49] Thus, in 1984, Romney left Bain & Company to co-found the spin-off private equity investment firm, Bain Capital.[48] In the face of skepticism from potential investors, Bain and Romney spent a year raising the $37 million in funds needed to start the new operation, which had fewer than ten employees.[43][47][50][51] As general partner of the new firm, Romney spent little money on costs such as office appearance, and saw weak spots in so many potential deals that by 1986, very few had been done.[39] At first, Bain Capital focused on venture capital opportunities.[39] Their first big success came with a 1986 investment to help start Staples Inc., after founder Thomas G. Stemberg convinced Romney of the market size for office supplies and Romney convinced others; Bain Capital eventually reaped a nearly sevenfold return on its investment, and Romney sat on the Staples board of directors for over a decade.[39][50][51]
Romney soon switched Bain Capital's focus from startups to the relatively new business of leveraged buyouts: buying existing firms with money mostly borrowed against their assets, partnering with existing management to apply the "Bain way" to their operations (rather than the hostile takeovers practiced in other leverage buyout scenarios), and then selling them off in a few years.[39][47] Existing CEOs were offered large equity stakes in the process, as part of Bain Capital's belief in the emerging agency theory notion that CEOs should be bound to maximizing shareholder value rather than other goals.[51] Bain Capital lost most of its money in many of its early leveraged buyouts, but then started finding deals that made large returns,[39] with some of the highest being a 34-fold return on Calumet Coach and a 16-fold return on the Gartner Group.[52] Indeed, during the 14 years Romney headed the company, Bain Capital's average annual internal rate of return on realized investments was 113 percent.[43] Romney excelled at presenting and selling the deals the company made.[49] The firm initially gave a cut of its profits to Bain & Company, but Romney later persuaded Bain to give that up.[49] Within Bain Capital, Romney spread profits from deals widely within the firm in order to keep people motivated, and often kept less than ten percent for himself.[53]
The firm invested in or acquired many well-known companies such as Accuride, Brookstone, Domino's Pizza, Sealy Corporation, Sports Authority, and Artisan Entertainment, as well as lesser-known companies in the industrial and medical sectors.[39][47][54] Romney's wary instincts were still in force at times, and he was generally data-driven and averse to risk.[39][51] He wanted to drop a Bain Capital hedge fund that initially lost money, but other partners prevailed and it eventually gained billions.[39] He also personally opted out of the Artisan Entertainment deal, not wanting to profit from a studio that produced R-rated films.[39] Within Bain Capital, Romney was viewed as a very fair manager and he received considerable loyalty from the firm's members.[51] Romney was on the board of directors of Damon Corporation, a medical testing company later found guilty of defrauding the government; Bain Capital tripled its investment before selling off the company, with the fraud being discovered by the new owners (Romney was never implicated).[39] In some cases Romney had little involvement with a company once acquired.[50]
Bain Capital's leveraged buyouts sometimes led to layoffs, either soon after acquisition or later after the firm had left.[39][4][49][50] Bain Capital officials later said that overall, more jobs were added than lost due to these buyouts, but a lack of available records makes such assertions unverifiable.[55][52] In any case, maximizing the value of acquired companies and the return to Bain's investors, not job creation, was the firm's fundamental goal, as it was for most private equity operations.[55][50] Regarding job losses, Romney later said, "Sometimes the medicine is a little bitter but it is necessary to save the life of the patient. My job was to try and make the enterprise successful, and in my view the best security a family can have is that the business they work for is strong."[49] Bain Capital's acquisition of Ampad exemplified a deal where it profited handsomely from early payments and management fees, even though the subject company itself ended up going into bankruptcy.[39][51][55] Dade Behring was another case where Bain Capital received an eightfold return on its investment, but the company itself was saddled with debt and laid off over a thousand employees before Bain Capital exited (the company subsequently went into bankruptcy, with more layoffs, before recovering and prospering).[52] Bain was among the private equity firms that took the most such fees.[47][51] Romney said in retrospect: "It is one thing that if I had a chance to go back I would be more sensitive to. It is always a balance. Great care has got to be taken not to take a dividend or a distribution from a company that puts that company at risk. [Having taken a big payment from a company that later failed] would make me sick, sick at heart."[47]
In 1990, Romney was asked to return to Bain & Company, which was facing financial collapse.[48] He was announced as its new CEO in January 1991[56][57] (but drew only a symbolic salary of one dollar).[48] Romney managed an effort to restructure the firm's employee stock-ownership plan, real-estate deals and bank loans, while rallying the firm's thousand employees, imposing a new governing structure that included Bain and the other founding partners giving up control, and increasing fiscal transparency.[39][43][48] Within about a year, he had led Bain & Company through a turnaround and returned the firm to profitability without further layoffs or partner defections.[43] He turned Bain & Company over to new leadership and returned to Bain Capital in December 1992.[39][57][58]
Romney left Bain Capital in February 1999 to serve as the President and CEO of the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic Games Organizing Committee.[39] By that time, Bain Capital was on its way to being one of the top private equity firms in the nation,[49] having increased its number of partners from 5 to 18, having 115 employees overall, and having $4 billion under its management.[47][50] It had made some 150 deals where it acquired and then sold a company.[52] Bain Capital's approach of applying consulting expertise to the companies it invested in became widely copied within the private equity industry.[18][50] University of Chicago Booth School of Business economist Steven Kaplan would later say, "[Romney] came up with a model that was very successful and very innovative and that now everybody uses."[51]
His experience at Bain & Company and Bain Capital gave Romney a business-oriented world view – centering around a hate of waste and inefficiency, a love for data and charts and analysis and presentation, and a belief in keeping an open mind and seeking opposing points of view – that he would take with him to the public sector.[15][48] At the time of his departure, Romney negotiated an agreement with Bain Capital that allowed him to receive a passive profit share as a retired partner in some Bain Capital entities, including buyout and investment funds.[59][53] With the private equity business continuing to thrive, this deal would bring him millions of dollars in income each year.[53] As a result of his business career, by 2007 Romney and his wife had a net worth of between $190 and $250 million, most of it held in blind trusts.[59] An additional blind trust existed in the name of the Romneys' children and grandchildren that was valued at between $70 and $100 million as of 2007.[60] The couple's net worth remained in the same range as of 2011, and was still held in blind trusts.[61]
Local church leadershipDuring his years in business, Romney also served in the local lay clergy for the LDS Church and tithed his income.[26] Over time this would result in millions of dollars going to the church.[26][62] He served as ward bishop for Belmont, Massachusetts from 1981 to 1986, acting as the ecclesiastical and administrative head of his congregation.[63][64] As such he formulated Sunday services and classes, using The Bible and the Book of Mormon to guide the congregation, and also did home teaching.[65] He forged bonds with other religious institutions in the area when the Belmont Meeting House was hit by a fire of suspicious origins in 1984; the congregation rotated its meetings at other churches while theirs was rebuilt.[64][62]
From 1986 to 1994 Romney presided over the Boston Stake, which included more than a dozen congregations in eastern Massachusetts.[26][63][66][65] He organized a team to handle financial and management issues, sought to counter anti-Mormon sentiments, and tried to solve social problems among poor Southeast Asian converts.[64][62] An unpaid position, Romney's local church leadership often took 30 or more hours a week of his time.[65] Due to his responsibilities, he generally refrained from any business travel that would prevent him from getting back to the Boston area by night.[65]
Romney took a hands-on role in general matters, helping in maintenance efforts in- and outside homes, visiting the sick, and counseling troubled or burdened church members.[63][64][65] A number of local church members later credited Romney with turning their lives around or helping get them through difficult times.[63][64][65][62] Some others were rankled by his leadership style and desired a more consensus-based approach.[64] Romney later said that the years spent as pastor gave him direct exposure to people struggling in economically difficult circumstances different from his own affluent upbringing, and empathy for those going through problematic family situations.[67]

Romney had been thinking about entering politics for a while.[32] He decided to take on longtime incumbent Democratic Senator Ted Kennedy, who was more vulnerable than usual in 1994 – in part because of the unpopularity of the Democratic Congress as a whole and also because this was Kennedy's first election since the William Kennedy Smith trial in Florida, in which Kennedy had taken some public relations hits regarding his character.[68][69][70] Romney changed his affiliation from Independent to Republican in October 1993 and formally announced his candidacy in February 1994.[32] He stepped down from his position at Bain Capital, and from his church leadership role, during the run.[9][65]
Romney came from behind to win the Massachusetts Republican Party's nomination for U.S. Senate after buying substantial television time to get out his message and gaining overwhelming support in the state party convention.[71] He then defeated businessman John Lakian in the September 1994 primary with over 80 percent of the vote.[9][72]
In the general election, Kennedy faced the first serious re-election challenger of his career in the young, telegenic, and very well-funded Romney.[68] Romney ran as a fresh face, as a successful entrepreneur who stated he had created ten thousand jobs, and as a Washington outsider with a strong family image and moderate stands on social issues.[68][73] When Kennedy tried to tie Romney's policies to those of Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush, Romney responded, "Look, I was an independent during the time of Reagan-Bush. I'm not trying to take us back to Reagan-Bush."[74] Romney stated: "Ultimately, this is a campaign about change."[75] After two decades out of public view, his father George re-emerged during the campaign as well.[76][77]
Romney's campaign was effective in portraying Kennedy as soft on crime, but had trouble establishing its own positions in a consistent manner.[78] By mid-September 1994, polls showed the race to be approximately even.[68][79][80] Kennedy responded with a series of attack ads, which focused both on Romney's seemingly shifting political views on issues such as abortion and on the treatment of workers at the Ampad plant owned by Romney's Bain Capital.[68][81][82] The latter was effective in blunting Romney's momentum.[51] Kennedy and Romney held a widely watched late October debate without a clear winner, but by then Kennedy had pulled ahead in polls and stayed ahead afterward.[83] Romney spent over $7 million of his own money, with Kennedy spending more than $10 million from his campaign fund, mostly in the last weeks of the campaign (this was the second-most expensive race of the 1994 election cycle, after the Dianne Feinstein–Michael Huffington Senate race in California).[84]
In the November general election, despite a disastrous showing for Democrats overall, Kennedy won the election with 58 percent of the vote to Romney's 41 percent,[39] the smallest margin in Kennedy's eight re-election campaigns for the Senate.
2002 Winter Olympics
Romney, who served as CEO of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, offering remarks before a curling matchRomney returned to Bain Capital the day after the election, but still smarted from the loss, and told his brother, "I never want to run for something again unless I can win."[32][85] His father died in 1995 and his mother in 1998, and Romney felt restless as the decade neared a close; the goal of just making more money was losing its appeal to him.[32][85] He no longer had a church leadership position, although he still taught Sunday School.[63] Fearing he would be a focal point for opposition, he had a limited, behind-the-scenes role in trying to ease tensions between the church and local residents during the long and controversial approval and construction process for a Mormon temple in Belmont (nevertheless, it still was sometimes referred to as "Mitt's Temple" by locals).[63][64][62][65] Ann Romney was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1998; Romney described watching her fail a series of neurological tests as the worst day of his life.[32] After two years of severe difficulties with the disease, she found in Park City, Utah (where the couple had built a vacation home) a mixture of mainstream, alternative, and equestrian therapies that gave her a lifestyle mostly without limitations.[38] When the offer came for Romney to take over the troubled 2002 Olympic Winter Games, to be held in Salt Lake City in Utah, she urged him to take it, and eager for a new challenge, he did.[85][86] On February 11, 1999, Romney was hired as the new president and CEO of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee.[87]
Before Romney came on, the event was running $379 million short of its revenue benchmarks.[87] Plans were being made to scale back the games to compensate for the fiscal crisis and there were fears the games might be moved away entirely.[88] The Games had also been damaged by allegations of bribery involving top officials, including prior Salt Lake Olympic Committee president and CEO Frank Joklik. Joklik and committee vice president Dave Johnson were forced to resign.[89] Romney's appointment faced some initial criticism from non-Mormons, and fears from Mormons, that it represented cronyism or gave the games too Mormon an image.[27]
Romney revamped the organization's leadership and policies, reduced budgets, and boosted fund raising. He soothed worried corporate sponsors and recruited many new ones.[85][90] He admitted past problems, listened to local critics, and rallied Utah's citizenry with a sense of optimism.[85] Romney worked to ensure the safety of the Games following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks by ignoring those who suggested the games be called off and coordinating a $300 million security budget.[86][91] He became the public face of the Olympic effort, appearing in countless photographs and news stories and even on Olympics souvenir pins.[85] Romney's omnipresence irked those who thought he was taking too much of the credit for the success, or had exaggerated the state of initial distress, or was primarily looking to improve his own image.[85][90] Overall he oversaw a $1.32 billion budget, 700 employees, and 26,000 volunteers.[87]
Despite the initial fiscal shortfall, the Games ended up clearing a profit of $100 million,[92] not counting the $224.5 million in security costs contributed by outside sources.[93] Romney broke the record for most private money raised by any individual for an Olympics games, summer or winter.[86] His performance as Olympics head was rated positively by 87 percent of Utahns.[94] Romney and his wife contributed $1 million to the Olympics, and he donated to charity the $1.4 million in salary and severance payments he received for his three years as president and CEO.[95]
Romney was widely praised for his successful efforts with the 2002 Winter Olympics[86] including by President George W. Bush,[18] and it solidified his reputation as a turnaround artist.[90] Harvard Business School taught a case study based around Romney's successful actions.[4] Romney wrote a book about his experience titled Turnaround: Crisis, Leadership, and the Olympic Games, published in 2004. The role gave Romney experience in dealing with federal, state, and local entities, a public persona he had previously lacked, and the chance to re-launch his political aspirations.[85] Indeed, he was mentioned as a possible candidate for statewide office in both Massachusetts and Utah, and also as possibly joining the Bush administration.[86][96][97]
Governor of Massachusetts2002 gubernatorial campaignMain article: Massachusetts gubernatorial election, 2002
In 2002, Republican Acting Governor Jane Swift's administration was plagued by political missteps and personal scandals.[94] Many Republicans viewed her as a liability and considered her unable to win a general election against a Democrat.[98] Prominent GOP activists campaigned to persuade Romney to run for governor.[96] One poll taken at that time showed Republicans favoring Romney over Swift by more than 50 percentage points.[99] In March 2002, Swift decided not to seek her party's nomination, and so Romney was unopposed in the Republican party primary.[94][100]
Massachusetts Democratic Party officials contested Romney's eligibility to run for governor, citing residency issues involving Romney's time in Utah as president of the Salt Lake City Olympic Committee.[101] In June 2002, the Massachusetts State Ballot Law Commission unanimously ruled that Romney was eligible to run for office.[101]
Romney ran as a political outsider again,[94] saying he was "not a partisan Republican" but rather was a moderate with progressive views.[102] Supporters of Romney hailed his business record, especially his success with the 2002 Olympics, as the record of someone who would be able to bring a new era of efficiency into Massachusetts politics.[100] The campaign was the first to use microtargeting techniques, in which fine-grained groups of voters were reached with narrowly tailored messaging.[103] Romney contributed over $6 million to his own campaign during the election, a state record at the time.[94][104] Romney was elected Governor in November 2002 with 50 percent of the vote over his Democratic opponent, Massachusetts State Treasurer Shannon O'Brien, who received 45 percent.[105]
Tenure, 2003–2007Main article: Governorship of Mitt Romney
Romney was sworn in as the 70th governor of Massachusetts on January 2, 2003. Both houses of the Massachusetts state legislature held large Democratic majorities.[106] He picked his cabinet and advisors more on managerial abilities than partisan affiliation.[15] Upon entering office in the middle of a fiscal year, Romney faced an immediate $650 million shortfall and a projected $3 billion deficit for the next year.[97] Unexpected revenue of $1.0–1.3 billion from a previously enacted capital gains tax increase and $500 million in unanticipated federal grants decreased the deficit to $1.2–1.5 billion.[107][108] Through a combination of spending cuts, increased fees, and removal of corporate tax loopholes, by 2006 the state had a $600–700 million surplus.[97][107][109]
Official Massachusetts State House portrait of Governor Mitt Romney, by artist Richard WhitneyRomney supported raising various fees by more than $300 million, including those for driver's licenses, marriage licenses, and gun licenses.[97][107] Romney increased a special gasoline retailer fee by two cents per gallon, generating about $60 million per year in additional revenue.[97][107] (Opponents said the reliance on fees sometimes imposed a hardship on those who could least afford them.[107]) Romney also closed tax loopholes that brought in another $181 million from businesses over the next two years and over $300 million for his term.[97][110] These initial loophole actions, fueled by Romney's sense of rectitude and in the face of conservative and corporate critics that considered them tax increases, won plaudits from legislators as an example of political courage.[110]
The state legislature, with Romney's support, also cut spending by $1.6 billion, including $700 million in reductions in state aid to cities and towns.[111] The cuts also included a $140 million reduction in state funding for higher education, which led state-run colleges and universities to increase tuition by 63 percent over four years.[97][107] Romney sought additional cuts in his last year as Massachusetts governor by vetoing nearly 250 items in the state budget, but all of them were overridden by the Democratic-dominated legislature.[112]
The cuts in state spending put added pressure on local property taxes; the share of town and city revenues coming from property taxes rose from 49 percent to 53 percent.[97][107]
The combined state and local tax burden in Massachusetts increased during Romney's governorship but still was below the national average.[97] According to the Tax Foundation, that per capita burden was 9.8 percent in 2002 (below the national average of 10.3 percent), and 10.5 percent in 2006 (below the national average of 10.8 percent).[113]
Romney was at the forefront of a movement to bring near-universal health insurance coverage to the state, after Staples founder Stemberg told him at the start of his term that doing so would be the best way he could help people[114][115][116] and after the federal government, due to the rules of Medicaid funding, threatened to cut $385 million in those payments to Massachusetts if the state did not reduce the number of uninsured recipients of health care services.[15][114][117] Despite not having campaigned on the idea of universal health insurance,[116] Romney decided that because people without insurance still received expensive health care, the money spent by the state for such care could be better used to subsidize insurance for the poor.[115][116]
After positing that any measure adopted not raise taxes and not resemble the previous decade's failed "Hillarycare" proposal, Romney formed a team of consultants from different political backgrounds that beginning in late 2004 came up with a set of innovative proposals more ambitious than an incremental one from the Massachusetts Senate and more acceptable to him than one from the Massachusetts House of Representatives that incorporated a new payroll tax.[15][114][117] In particular, Romney successfully pushed for incorporating an individual mandate at the state level.[7] Past rival Ted Kennedy, who had made universal heath coverage his life's work and who over time developed a warm relationship with Romney,[118] gave Romney's plan a positive reception, which encouraged Democratic legislators to work with it.[114][117] The effort eventually gained the support of all major stakeholders within the state, and Romney helped break a logjam between rival Democratic leaders in the legislature.[114][117]
On April 12, 2006, Romney signed the resulting Massachusetts health reform law, which requires nearly all Massachusetts residents to buy health insurance coverage or face escalating tax penalties such as the loss of their personal income tax exemption.[119] The bill also establishes means-tested state subsidies for people who do not have adequate employer insurance and who make below an income threshold, by using funds previously designated to compensate for the health costs of the uninsured.[120][121][122] He vetoed eight sections of the health care legislation, including a controversial $295-per-employee assessment on businesses that do not offer health insurance and provisions guaranteeing dental benefits to Medicaid recipients.[119][123] The legislature overrode all eight vetoes; Romney's communications director Eric Fehrnstrom responded by saying, "These differences with the Legislature are not essential to the goal of getting everyone covered with insurance."[123] Romney said of the measure overall, "There really wasn't Republican or Democrat in this. People ask me if this is conservative or liberal, and my answer is yes. It's liberal in the sense that we're getting our citizens health insurance. It's conservative in that we're not getting a government takeover."[114] The law was the first of its kind in the nation and became the signature achievement of Romney's term in office.[117][nb 7]
At the beginning of his governorship, Romney opposed same-sex marriage and civil unions, but advocated tolerance and supported some domestic partnership benefits.[117][125][126] Faced with the dilemma of choosing between same-sex marriage or civil unions after the November 2003 Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court decision legalizing same-sex marriages (Goodridge v. Department of Public Health), Romney reluctantly backed a state constitutional amendment in February 2004 that would have banned same-sex marriage but still allow civil unions, viewing it as the only feasible way to ban same-sex marriage in Massachusetts.[127] In May 2004 Romney instructed town clerks to begin issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples, but citing a 1913 law that barred out-of-state residents from getting married in Massachusetts if their union would be illegal in their home state, no marriage licenses were to be issued to out-of-state same-sex couples not planning to move to Massachusetts.[125][128] In June 2005, Romney abandoned his support for the compromise amendment, stating that the amendment confused voters who oppose both same-sex marriage and civil unions.[125] Instead, Romney endorsed a petition effort led by the Coalition for Marriage & Family that would have banned same-sex marriage and made no provisions for civil unions.[125] In 2004 and 2006 he urged the U.S. Senate to vote in favor of the Federal Marriage Amendment.[129][130]
In 2005, Romney revealed a change of view regarding abortion, moving from an "unequivocal" pro-choice position expressed during his 2002 campaign to a pro-life one where he opposed Roe v. Wade. [117] He vetoed a bill on pro-life grounds that would expand access to emergency contraception in hospitals and pharmacies[131] (the veto was overridden by the legislature).[132]
Romney generally used the bully pulpit approach towards promoting his agenda, staging well-organized media events to appeal directly to the public rather than pushing his proposals in behind-doors sessions with the state legislature.[117] Romney was especially effective in dealing with a crisis of confidence in Boston's Big Dig project following a fatal ceiling collapse in 2006, wresting control of the project from the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority and helping ensure that it would eventually complete.[117]
During 2004, Romney spent considerable effort trying to bolster the state Republican Party, but it failed to gain any seats in the state legislative elections that year.[97][133] Given a prime-time appearance at the 2004 Republican National Convention, Romney was already being discussed as a potential 2008 presidential candidate.[134] Midway through his term, Romney decided that he wanted to stage a full-time run for president,[135] and on December 14, 2005, Romney announced that he would not seek re-election for a second term as governor.[136][137] As chair of the Republican Governors Association, Romney traveled around the country, meeting prominent Republicans and building a national political network;[135] he spent part or all of more than 200 days out of state during 2006, preparing for his run.[138] Romney's frequent out-of-state travel contributed towards his approval rating declining in public polls towards the end of his term.[139] He conceded that 2006 would be a difficult year for Republicans and that they would likely lose gubernatorial seats, including possibly his own.[139] The weak condition of the Republican state party was one of several factors that led to Democrat Deval Patrick's lopsided win over Republican Kerry Healey in the 2006 Massachusetts gubernatorial election.[139]
Romney filed to register a presidential campaign committee with the Federal Election Commission on his penultimate day in office as governor.[140] Romney's term ended January 4, 2007.

Romney holding an "Ask Mitt Anything" session in Ames, Iowa, in May 2007Romney formally announced his candidacy for the 2008 Republican nomination for president on February 13, 2007, at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan.[141] In his speech, Romney frequently invoked his father and his own family and stressed experiences in the private, public, and voluntary sectors that had brought him to this point.[141][142] He said, "Throughout my life, I have pursued innovation and transformation,"[142] and casting himself as a political outsider, said, "I do not believe Washington can be transformed from within by a lifelong politician."[143]
The assets that Romney's campaign began with included his résumé of success in the business world and his rescuing of the Salt Lake Olympics,[135][144] which matched the commonly held notion that American industry had star players who could straighten out what was wrong in the nation's capital.[145] Romney also had solid political experience as governor together with a political pedigree courtesy of his father, a strong work ethic and energy level, and a large, wholesome-looking family that seemed so perfect as to be off-putting to some voters.[135][144][146] Ann Romney, who had become an outspoken advocate for those with multiple sclerosis,[147] was in remission and would be an active participant in his campaign,[148] helping to soften his political personality.[146] Moreover, with his square jaw, handsome face, and ample hair graying at the temples, Mitt Romney matched one of the common images of what a president should look like.[48][109][149][150] Romney's liabilities included having run for senator and served as governor in one of the nation's most liberal states, having taken some positions there that were opposed by the party's conservative base, and subsequently shifting those positions.[135][144][148] The candidate's Mormon religion was also viewed with suspicion and skepticism by some in the Evangelical portion of the party.[151]
Romneys on Mackinac Island at
the 2007 Republican ConventionRomney assembled for his campaign a veteran group of Republican staffers, consultants, and pollsters.[144][152] He was little-known nationally, though, and stayed around the ten percent range in Republican preference polls for the first half of 2007.[135] Romney's strategy was to win the first two big contests, the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary, and carry the momentum and visibility gained through the big Super Tuesday primaries and on to the nomination.[152] He proved the most effective fundraiser of any of the Republican candidates,[153] with his Olympics ties helping him with fundraising from Utah residents and from sponsors and trustees of the games.[95] He also partly financed his campaign with his own personal fortune.[144] These resources, combined with his August 2007 win in the Iowa Straw Poll and the mid-year near-collapse of nominal front-runner John McCain's campaign, made Romney a threat to win the nomination and the focus of the other candidates' attacks.[154] Romney's staff suffered from internal strife and the candidate himself was indecisive at times, constantly asking for more data before making a decision.[144][155]
During all of his political campaigns, Romney has generally avoided speaking publicly about specific Mormon doctrines, referring to the U.S. Constitution prohibition of religious tests for public office.[156] But persistent questions about the role of religion in Romney's life in this race, as well as Southern Baptist minister and former Governor of Arkansas Mike Huckabee's rise in the polls based upon an explicitly Christian-themed campaign, led to the December 6, 2007, "Faith in America" speech.[157] Introduced by former President George H. W. Bush, Romney discussed the role of religion in American society and politics. Romney said he should neither be elected nor rejected based upon his religion,[158] and echoed Senator John F. Kennedy's famous speech during his 1960 presidential campaign in saying "I will put no doctrine of any church above the plain duties of the office and the sovereign authority of the law."[157] Instead of discussing the specific tenets of his faith, he said that he would be informed by it and that, "Freedom requires religion just as religion requires freedom. Freedom and religion endure together, or perish alone."[157][158] Academics would later study the role religion had played in the campaign.[nb 8]
In the January 3, 2008, Iowa Republican caucuses, the first contest of the primary season, Romney received 25 percent of the vote and placed second to the vastly outspent Huckabee, who received 34 percent.[161][162] Of the 60 percent of caucus-goers who were evangelical Christians, Huckabee was supported by about half of them while Romney by only a fifth.[161] A couple of days later, Romney won the lightly contested Wyoming Republican caucuses.[163]
Mitt and Ann Romney in late December 2007 at a campaign event in Londonderry, New HampshireAt a Saint Anselm College debate, Huckabee and McCain pounded away at Romney's image as a flip flopper.[161] Indeed, this label would stick to Romney through the campaign[144] (but was one that Romney rejected as unfair and inaccurate, except for his acknowledged change of mind on abortion).[146] Romney seemed to approach the campaign as a management consulting exercise, and showed a lack of personal warmth and political feel; journalist Evan Thomas wrote that Romney "came off as a phony, even when he was perfectly sincere."[146][164] Romney's staff would conclude that competing as a candidate of social conservatism and ideological purity rather than of pragmatic competence had been a mistake.[146][165]
Romney finished in second place by five percentage points to the resurgent McCain in the next-door-to-his-home-state New Hampshire primary on January 8.[161] Romney rebounded to win the January 15 Michigan primary over McCain by a solid margin, capitalizing on his childhood ties to the state and his vow to bring back lost automotive industry jobs which was seen by several commentators as unrealistic.[nb 9] On January 19, Romney won the lightly contested Nevada caucuses, but placed fourth in the intense South Carolina primary, where he had effectively ceded the contest to his rivals.[170] McCain gained further momentum with his win in South Carolina, leading to a showdown between him and Romney in the Florida primary.[171][172]
For ten days, Romney campaigned intensively on economic issues and the burgeoning subprime mortgage crisis, while McCain repeatedly and inaccurately asserted that Romney favored a premature withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq.[nb 10] McCain won key last-minute endorsements from Florida Senator Mel Martinez and Governor Charlie Crist, which helped push him to a five percentage point victory on January 29.[171][172] Although many Republican officials were now lining up behind McCain,[172] Romney persisted through the nationwide Super Tuesday contests on February 5. There he won primaries or caucuses in several states, including Massachusetts, Alaska, Minnesota, Colorado and Utah, but McCain won more, including large states such as California and New York.[174] Trailing McCain in delegates by a more than two-to-one margin, Romney announced the end of his campaign on February 7 during a speech before the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington.[174]
Romney at a rally in Battle Creek, Michigan, in mid-January 2008Altogether, Romney had won 11 primaries and caucuses,[175] received about 4.7 million total votes,[176] and garnered about 280 delegates.[177] Romney spent $110 million during the campaign, including $45 million of his own money.[178]
Romney endorsed McCain for president a week later.[177] He soon founded the Free and Strong America PAC, a political action committee whose stated mission was to raise money for other Republican candidates and to promote Republican policies.[179] Romney became one of the McCain campaign's most visible surrogates, appearing on behalf of the GOP nominee at fundraisers, state Republican party conventions, and on cable news programs.[180] His efforts earned McCain's respect and the two developed a warmer relationship; he was on the nominee's short list for the vice presidential running mate slot, where his experience in matters economic would have balanced one of McCain's weaknesses.[181] McCain, behind in the polls, opted instead for a high-risk, high-reward "game changer" and selected Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.[182] Romney continued to work for McCain's eventually unsuccessful general election campaign.

Ad campaigns can also quickly and efficiently test different slogans and messages before applying them to the entire campaign. Google AdWords lets advertisers assign numerous ad variations to the same set of keywords. Stanley Krol SEO companies can display ads in rotation and it quickly becomes clear which ads generate the highest clickthrough rate. As a result, the low performing ads can be eliminated and successful ads can be refined through the introduction and rotation of subtle variations. Obama’s Decision To Kill The Keystone Pipeline Reflects His Broken Promises To Create Jobs And Bring The Country Together
Click To Watch
MSNBC’S Joe Scarborough: “We haven't talked about one issue that on any other day we'd be talking about nonstop. A big policy decision yesterday by the Obama administration. I must say, I don't understand it for a lot of different reasons, but I'm going to let you guys comment on it. Keystone, the president killed the permitting for Keystone. And I'm just wondering, wouldn't this be a good issue for him to reach out to the middle on? Am I wrong about that?”
Time’s Joe Klein: “No, the campaign this year is like the stupid Olympics. These guys -- Obama just made, I think, a very big mistake at a time when we have 9% unemployment, the one most important consideration in any political decision is jobs. And whether there are 2,500 jobs or 2,000 jobs, you go with it.”
Scarborough: “What’s the motivation inside the White House? Because the president -- the president wants to win independent voters. He wants jobs, he wants more energy. What is the hold up here?
Klein: “He wants his base.”
Scarborough: “The base would not forgive him for this?”
Klein: “College campuses, there’s a lot of environmental sentiment, this is a big issue.”
Time’s Mark Halperin: “I don't think it's purely political. I think the president doesn't think this is the right -- that the country's ready to make the decision, primarily because of safety concerns. But I think it is reflective of the fact he has not brought the country together on controversial issues which he promised to do.” (MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” 1/19/12)
WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT OBAMA’S MISGUIDED MOVE ON KEYSTONE
Chicago Tribune: “Obama made a decision that will deny the U.S. a reliable source of oil. Note that Canada has never threatened to block the Strait of Hormuz. Obama made a decision that will cost the U.S. good jobs. He seems to think those jobs will still be there when he gets around to making a decision on the pipeline. But they may well be gone for good.” (Editorial, “Pipeline Politics: Misguided Obama Blocks Keystone Pipeline,” Chicago Tribune, 1/19/12)
The Washington Post: “But, clearly, constructing the pipeline would still result in job gains during a sluggish economic recovery.” (Editorial, “Obama’s Keystone Pipeline Rejection Is Hard To Accept,” The Washington Post, 1/18/12)
· The Washington Post: “We almost hope this was a political call because, on the substance, there should be no question. Without the pipeline, Canada would still export its bitumen — with long-term trends in the global market, it’s far too valuable to keep in the ground — but it would go to China. And, as a State Department report found, U.S. refineries would still import low-quality crude — just from the Middle East. Stopping the pipeline, then, wouldn’t do anything to reduce global warming, but it would almost certainly require more oil to be transported across oceans in tankers.” (Editorial, “Obama’s Keystone Pipeline Rejection Is Hard To Accept,” The Washington Post, 1/18/12)
Laborers’ International Union of North America: “Instead of celebrating their victory by hugging a tree they should hug a jobless construction worker because they’re the ones who are going to need it.” (Laborers’ International Union of North America , “Job-Killers, 2; American Workers, 0,” Press Release, 1/18/12)
· Laborers’ International Union of North America Called Obama’s Decision “Politics At Its Worst.” “‘The score is Job-Killers, two; American workers, zero. We are completely and totally disappointed. This is politics at its worst,’ LIUNA General President Terry O’Sullivan said. ‘Once again the President has sided with environmentalists instead of blue collar construction workers – even though environmental concerns were more than adequately addressed. Blue collar construction workers across the U.S. will not forget this.’” (Laborers’ International Union of North America , “, 2; American Workers, 0,” Press Release, 1/18/12)

Don't Call it Xenophobia and Don't Call it Racism
[This post was originaly written on September 28th, when ICE was conducting raids on employers of illegal immigrants.]
Fox news is covering the recent ICE raids on McDonalds (and other companies I think), and the accusations by Hispanic community leaders (who decides who a "community leader" is anyway?) that these raids are somehow "racist.'
I can sympathize with the plight of an immigrant who is in this country seeking a better life and seeking to provide for his/her family. Having lived in 3 different Central American countries as a missionary, so I can also sympathize with the plight of Latin Americans who are not able to provide for their families. I certainly can sympathize with the hardship created by corrupt governments in Latin America. BUT...and this is a MAJOR BUT...every action has consequences. Entering our country illegally has legal consequences, including deportation. This is standard. It may not have been enforced in the past, but not so anymore. Why is this suddenly a surprise? Everyone knows it was bound to happen eventually, and every illegal immigrant knows that this is always a possibility.
Now it is, and thank goodness some of our government officials are starting to do something about it. If you are here illegally, consider the price. This is not a race issue -- it is a simple "rule of law" issue.
Is there racism out there -- sure! I've seen it and experienced it myself. But considering the reasonable public outcry by a vast majority of citizens -- those who our government serves -- it is only logical that our government agencies (ICE) would start doing their job (they should have been doing for along time...). I wouldn't call that racism. I would call it the restoration of the rule of law.
My advice: If you are an illegal immigrant in the US, start planning a way to go back home. Get some savings, and work up a business plan to start a small business back home. I realize life in the US is so much better than in Latin America, but until citizens -- until Hondurans, Costa Ricans, Nicaraguans, Guatemalans, Mexicans, and others do something -- start protesting and pressuring THEIR governments to open up their markets, and provide business-friendly economies -- nothing is going to change. But here in the US, we still have to have a country of laws. This is, after all, what makes our economy so strong, so effective and so productive.
Ultimately, if the United States allow illegal immigrants to freely falsify identity papers, social security IDs and tax documents, this would weaken the integrity and trust we place in our systems--the very economy they are benefiting from.
I'm sorry...I really am, but that's how it has to be. I don't hate immigrants--my father is one. I don't fear Hispanics -- I am one and I am friends with many Hispanics or Latinos. This has nothing to do with it.
So, don't call it xenophobia and don't call it racism. No one is buying that around here...

? Romney was raised in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and served as a Mormon missionary in France. He attended Stanford University and Brigham Young University as an undergraduate, then earned a joint Juris Doctor/Master of Business Administration degree from the Harvard Law School and Harvard Business School. He entered the management consulting business and became CEO of Bain & Company and co-founder of Bain Capital, a private equity investment firm. He ran as the Republican candidate in the 1994 U.S. Senate election in Massachusetts but lost to incumbent Edward M. Kennedy. Romney organized and steered the 2002 Winter Olympics as President and CEO of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee.
? Romney won the election for Governor of Massachusetts in 2002. In his one term, he presided over a series of spending cuts and increases in fees while the state's finances improved. He signed into law the landmark Massachusetts health care reform legislation, which provided near-universal health insurance access via subsidies and mandates. Romney was a candidate for the Republican nomination in the 2008 United States presidential election, winning several caucuses and primaries but ultimately losing to John McCain. Since then he has published a book, No Apology: The Case for American Greatness, and given speeches and raised campaign funds on behalf of fellow Republicans. He is widely seen as a front-runner for the Republican nomination in the 2012 presidential election.

CANDIDATES ON THE BORDER
Posted by William Finnegan
The Republican Presidential campaign has been a bruising race to the bottom on illegal immigration, with seemingly every humane or realistic suggestion provoking a pile-on. Even the mild-mannered Jon Huntsman called Rick Perry “treasonous” for noting that the border with Mexico cannot simply be fenced. Poor Perry: his problem seemed to be a Texan’s familiarity with the actual border—its vastness, its complexity, the billions of dollars it will cost to maintain the hundreds of miles of fence already built (still covering less than a third of the border’s length), and the pointlessness of building more in ever-tougher terrain. Perry’s realism, and the glimmer of compassion he was willing to show—“If you say that we should not educate children who have come into our state for no other reason than they’ve been brought here by no fault of their own, I don’t think you have a heart”—played a significant role in his fall from grace. And so he, too, joined the race to the bottom, seeking the endorsement of America’s most notorious anti-illegal-immigration warrior, Sheriff Joe Arpaio, and bringing him out on the campaign trail in Iowa.
Now, with the focus of the campaign shifting to Arpaio’s home state of Arizona, a center of anti-illegal-immigration feeling, the issue’s bound to resurface. It seems to unhinge some politicians. Remember Herman Cain’s electrified border fence? It was going to be twenty feet high, with barbed wire on top and enough voltage to kill a human being. Cain later said he was joking. Actually, a lot of the Republican Presidential contenders’ proposals on the issue would be funny if they weren’t so bizarre or disturbing or both. When Mitt Romney was asked how he would handle illegal immigrants living in the United States, he said, “Well, the answer is self-deportation.” Newt Gingrich has suggested that the deportation question should be decided by neighborhood review boards, which would evaluate the quality of an undocumented individual’s community ties. Rick Santorum, normally second to no straight man in defense of the traditional family, has advocated breaking up families that contain illegal immigrants, as millions of families do. Santorum, belittling Gingrich’s expressed concern for grandmothers who are longtime residents, offered a novel legal theory. “You can’t be here for twenty years and commit only one illegal act,” he told a group in Iowa. “Because everything you’re doing while you’re here is against the law.” (If you can’t get your mind around that concept, you’re in good company. Lacking residence papers is a civil violation, not a crime.) Everyone in the field condemned Perry for making a college education too accessible to undocumented young people in his state—he was “soft on immigration.” Perry retaliated with charges that Romney had made health care too accessible to illegal immigrants in Massachusetts.
And that fence: a mighty one, even if not electrified, has become a must. Will Romney build one the entire length of the border? Yes? Then Gingrich will build two.
Gentlemen, are these Christian sentiments? Do they even attract votes? According to Gallup, a substantial majority of Americans favor, even in this time of high unemployment, a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants—what Romney and company deride as “amnesty” at every turn. The hot pursuit of the Republican primary “base” can carry a man not only many miles from the political center but also far from the teachings, certainly on the subject of immigration, of his own church.
Going that far can also carry a man, such as Romney, into the realm of self-parody. His self-deportation idea is both deadly serious and an old joke. The phrase was apparently coined in 1994 by two Chicano satirists, Lalo Alcaraz and Esteban Zul, for the purpose of mocking an anti-immigrant California ballot initiative. Alcaraz played, brilliantly, a “militant self-deportationist” and right-wing Latino called Daniel D. Portado, and he stayed in character even while being interviewed on TV. A new group, Patriots for Self-Deportation, recently launched a Web site urging Americans to investigate their family trees for illegal immigrants and “anchor babies” and then, if they find anything suspicious, to do the right thing and self-deport. The site is now filling up with anguished testimonials from conscience-stricken young white people heading off to Italy and Poland to atone for their ancestors’ misdeeds. (Portado has sent the new self-deporters a hotly worded cease-and-desist letter.) Meanwhile, irony-free anti-immigrant groups are also laying claim to the phrase, defining it as a synonym for “attrition through enforcement,” which is the strategy behind harsh new laws in Alabama and, yes, Arizona. The aim of those laws is to make life so difficult for illegal immigrants that they will pull up stakes and leave. And that is precisely what Romney meant. His chief adviser on immigration issues, Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, was the draft author of both the Arizona and the Alabama laws.
Romney has already gone too far for some of his supporters. Jacob Montijilo Monty, a Houston attorney and Latino Republican activist, wrote a searing column for the Las Vegas Sun last Friday. Monty, once a donor to Romney’s campaign, accused the candidate of “heckl[ing] Hispanics with nativist rhetoric.” Romney’s enthusiasm for self-deportation had been the last straw.
Exactly what kind of conditions would be required before tens of millions of undocumented persons would agree to ‘self-deport’? How hostile would the cultural climate have to be for millions of men, women and children to flee from it? And what about the rest of us, governor? What about my children, who are as proud of their American citizenship, history and heritage as your five fine sons? Would they be forced to grow up in the environment of hateful suspicion that ‘self-deportation’ would require? Like a battered spouse who stays silent in the vain hope that things will somehow change, I made excuses for Romney, crossed my fingers and, until now, kept my lips sealed—and among other Hispanic Republicans, I’ve not been alone. No mas. I want to file charges.
This sort of disaffection could doom a candidate in the general election. Latinos are both the largest and the fastest-growing minority in the country, and their vote will be crucial in several battleground states. Jeb Bush, who knows something himself about persuading Latinos to vote Republican—he won a majority of Latino votes in Florida in 2002—wrote recently, in the Washington Post, “In the fifteen states that are likely to decide who controls the White House and the Senate in 2013, Hispanic voters will represent the margin of victory.” Romney, or whoever wins the Republican nomination, probably plans, per tradition, to tack back toward the political center on a range of issues, including immigration, during the general-election campaign. That may not work, however, on this issue, with these voters. Politically liberal or conservative, people know when they have been scapegoated and insulted. Barack Obama has not delivered on his campaign promise to push hard for comprehensive immigration reform, even after Latinos helped lift him to victory in 2008. But at least everyone knows he was kidding when he talked about putting moats full of alligators on our southern border.

Malibu Oceanfront Investing said... March 09, 2012 @ 9:42:33 PM EST Real Estate News & Commentary by Stan Krol Entrepreneur, March 9th, 2012. Foreclosures reached a high in February, the last month data was available, when 4,169 high–end homes were somewhere in the foreclosure process; having received a foreclosure notice, had an auction scheduled or had ownership taken over by the lender. That’s a 121% increase from a year ago. The deterioration comes just as housing experts say that foreclosures in the low and middle ends of the housing market are showing signs of stabilization. Heated pools, ocean views and media rooms are not what most people would expect to find in a foreclosed property, but more high–end homes – priced at more than a million dollars – have been falling into the hands of banks this year. Foreclosures of homes worth more than $1 million began increasing at the end of 2011, according to data provided to CNBC.com by foreclosure tracking website RealtyTrac. Owners of expensive homes "were able to stave off foreclosure longer," says independent real estate analyst Jack McCabe, CEO of McCabe Research and Consulting in South Florida. "Lower–end homeowners were the first ones to see the escalating foreclosures, because they generally do not have the cash reserves or credit available that the luxury homeowners do." They had the ability to take their credit cards and pull out thousands of dollars, while the lower–end buyers were already tapped out. Data show that may be the case around the country. The 90–day delinquency rate on home loans worth more than a million dollars hit a high in February at 13.3%, above the overall rate of 8.6%, according to real estate data firm First American CoreLogic. Foreclosure proceedings generally start after a homeowner has been at least 90 days late on a mortgage payment, experts say. One difference in the high–end market is that lenders are willing to do more to head off foreclosure by renegotiating the loan or accepting a short-sale transaction, which is essentially a last–ditch effort. "Lenders are far more likely to go the short–sale route," says Andrew LePage, an analyst at real estate research firm DataQuick. "There’s a lot more money at stake, and maintenance can be high if a foreclosure just sits there." A $1.15 million condominium in Chicago in the landmark Palmolive Building was initially offered as a short sale, but after a buyer did not materialize, it’s now owned by the bank, says Janice Corley, founder of Sudler Sotheby’s International Realty, which is currently listing it. The condo has lake views and a long list of luxury–building amenities, including a steam room, doorman and gym. . The rise in luxury foreclosures has one Las Vegas real estate agent flying prospective buyers into the city via private jet. Luxury Homes of Las Vegas and JetSuite Air teamed to offer the complimentary trip for buyers flying from Los Angeles to view three foreclosed homes priced between $4.9 million and $6.1 million Agent Ken Lowman says he gave three tours over a one–week period and hopes to expand the offer to buyers from other West Coast cities. There’s just too much competition, Lowman says. "It takes an innovative approach like this to get results." ========================================= What does this mean for you? You need to get heavily involved in investing in Foreclosed properties. The competition within our industry is getting more and more powerful, but with the right information, knowledge and connections, you can leave your competition behind! Alan Casden will not be the next owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, as he had his ownership bid rejected by Major League Baseball.
Casden, a Beverly Hills real estate developer, was not invited to Monday’s meetings between Dodgers bidders and two committees of major league owners.
The six bidding groups at the meetings: hedge-fund billionaire Steven Cohen and longtime agent Arn Tellem; St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke; Memphis Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley and Los Angeles investor Tony Ressler; Los Angeles civic leader and investor Stanley Gold; New York media executive Leo Hindery; and veteran baseball executive Stan Kasten and Guggenheim Partners Chief Executive Mark Walter. Magic Johnson, who is a partner with Kasten and Guggenheim, was unable to attend because of a scheduling conflict.
So it’s down to six, but three clear favorites have emerged.
Cohen is widely considered one of three favorites to buy the team, along with St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke and a group led by Magic Johnson and veteran baseball executive Stan Kasten.
Steven Cohen appears to clearly be in the lead, but why?
There are several bidders offering $1.5 billion for the Dodgers. But who has the cash? Remember when Rick Caruso bailed? That wasn’t about the parking lots not being included, as Caruso so meekly claimed (how many teams own their own parking lots?). It was about Caruso not having the cash. MLB kicked out Jared Kushner because he didn’t have the cash either. He wanted to buy the Dodgers with too much debt. Been there, done that.
As expected, all of this comes down to money. Not so much total money bid, but who can give Frank McCourt the most money right now. As such, it appears that the three with the most are Cohen, Stan Kroenke, and Magic Johnson/Stan Kasten.
—–
Now I was going to write about the ownership situation in further detail, but Mike Petriello has already said a lot of the things I wanted to say.
I’ve been pretty apprehensive about Cohen since the first time we talked about him, arguing that a hedge fund guy under investigation from the SEC who’s had his own nightmare divorce which stretched over two decades isn’t exactly the ideal owner to follow up Frank McCourt. Besides, while it doesn’t bother me so much, I know the idea of another East Coast import (a Mets fan and recent buyer of a minority share in the club, Cohen currently lives in Connecticut) who has reportedly never even been to Dodger Stadium won’t sit well with any of us.
Yup. Do not want.
Then there’s Kroenke, who has some appeal. He’s clearly got a ton of experience in sports ownership, having owned parts or all of the St. Louis Rams, English soccer club Arsenal, and basically every professional Colorado sports club that isn’t the Rockies or Broncos, including the Nuggets (NBA), Avalanche (NHL), Mammoth (NLL), Rapids (MLS), and Crush (AFL). Beyond the teams themselves, his groups own the Pepsi Center in Denver and launched Altitude (a regional sports network which carries his Colorado teams) & TicketHorse, a ticketing agency for all of his teams.
He wrote a lot more on Kroenke, including finding an article from 2010 which talks about Kroenke’s management style, most of which paints him in a positive light.
Of course, the primary worry with him is that the Dodgers might be secondary to getting an NFL team in Los Angeles, as I mentioned previously.
—–
So basically, Magic Johnson’s group is still my favorite, but I’m starting to realize that Stan Kroenke brings a ton to the table as well. The worry is Steven Cohen because of a few black marks on his personal record, because I’m not convinced he’s actually interested in the team, and because he resembles Dr. Evil from “Austin Powers“.

Republican presidential candidate, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney waves to a crowd in Schaumburg, Ill., after winning the Illinois Republican presidential primary, Tuesday, March 20, 2012. / AP

SCHAUMBURG, ILL. — Mitt Romney took a major stride toward the Republican presidential nomination Tuesday night, routing Rick Santorum in the Illinois primary for his third-straight big-state win and padding his already-formidable lead in the race for convention delegates.
“What a night,” Romney exulted to cheering supporters in suburban Chicago. Looking beyond his GOP rivals, he said he had a simple message for President Barack Obama, the man Republicans hope to defeat next fall: “Enough. We’ve had enough.”
Returns from 61 percent of Illinois’ precincts showed Romney gaining 48 percent of the vote compared to 34 percent for Santorum, 9 percent for Ron Paul and 8 percent for a fading Newt Gingrich.
That was a far more substantial showing for Romney than the grudging victories he eked out in the previous few weeks in Michigan and Ohio, primaries that did as much to raise questions about his ability to attract Republican support as to quell those questions.
Santorum, who hopes to rebound in next Saturday’s Louisiana primary, sounded like anything but a defeated contender as he spoke to supporters in Gettysburg, Pa. He said he had outpolled Romney in downstate Illinois and the areas “that conservatives and Republicans populate. We’re very happy about that and we’re happy about the delegates we’re going to get, too.”
“Saddle up, like (Ronald) Reagan did in the cowboy movies,” he urged his backers.
Romney triumphed in Illinois after benefitting from a crushing, 7-1 advantage in the television advertising wars, and as his chief rival struggled to overcome self-imposed political wounds in the marathon race to pick an opponent to Obama.
Most recently, Santorum backpedaled after saying on Monday that the economy wasn’t the main issue of the campaign. “Occasionally you say some things where you wish you had a do-over,” he said later.
Over the weekend, he was humbled in the Puerto Rico primary after saying that to qualify for statehood the island commonwealth should adopt English as an official language.

Oprah Winfrey (from left), Harvard President Drew Faust, and Graduate School of Education Dean Kathleen McCartney listened as Lady Gaga launched her anti-bullying, youth-empowering Born This Way Foundation at Sanders Theatre.
.
She has the most renowned wardrobe on the planet, a legion of fans she calls “Little Monsters,” and multiple Grammy Awards. Now, she has collaborators at Harvard, too.
Pop sensation Lady Gaga launched her anti-bullying, youth-empowering Born This Way Foundation (BTWF) at Sanders Theatre on Wednesday during an Askwith Forum sponsored by the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE).
The event drew a powerful lineup of anti-bullying advocates, researchers, and celebrities, including a powerhouse trio of women — Gaga, talk show host Oprah Winfrey, and U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius. Gaga was accompanied by her mother and group co-founder Cynthia Germanotta.
Lady Gaga visited Harvard, stressing that her new charity will try to inspire a major cultural shift.
“What a banner day for Harvard to have all three here in Sanders Theatre combining their power, directing their influence to advance, as the Born This Way Foundation puts it, ‘kindness, bravery, acceptance, and empowerment,’” said Harvard President Drew Faust, who introduced Winfrey. “We are honored to join with you in proclaiming to the world that it gets better.”
Gaga was joined by a panel that included author Deepak Chopra, Jesse Climenko Professor of Law Charles Ogletree of Harvard Law School, bullying expert and psychologist Susan Swearer, actor David Burtka, and Alyssa Rodemeyer, the teenage sister of Jamey Rodemeyer, a 14-year-old victim of bullying who committed suicide last year.
Gaga stressed that her new charity will try to inspire a major cultural shift.
“I can’t give you an answer. I can’t say I will solve problems,” said the singer. “It’s a transformative change in culture over time.”
An important part of that change, she said, includes the three pillars of the new initiative: skills, safety and opportunity. “I want everyone to feel safe in their community, school, home, whatever city you live in,” and to develop the skills needed to be a “loving, accepting, and tolerant” human being, Gaga told Winfrey.
“Once you feel safe in your environment and you acquire the skills to be a loving and accepting person, the opportunities for you are endless to become a great, functioning” part of society.
Using technology creatively to get her message across will be another vital part of the new initiative, said Gaga.
“It’s going to take a really long time, and if anyone knows how to get a message out there, it’s me.”
Winfrey took the stage to interview the singer about her plans. Gaga’s initiative, Winfrey said, speaks to the innate human desire for acceptance and validation that she saw time and again during her work as a television interviewer.
“I believe that every human being on the planet comes with the inherent divine right to be himself and herself,” Winfrey said. “That’s what we’re here to do: to fulfill the highest expression of ourselves as human beings.”
The nonprofit organization is partnering with Harvard’s Berkman Center for Internet & Society to address issues of self-confidence, anti-bullying, mentoring, and career development through research, education, and advocacy, in large part by harnessing the power of the Internet.
“We are coordinating a research network to help inform the foundation as it carries out its work,” said Berkman Center co-director John Palfrey in an interview earlier in the day.
Palfrey and the Berkman’s Danah Boyd will serve as research fellows for the foundation and work closely on the initiative with the center’s executive director, Urs Gasser, as well as its Youth and Media Project.
The decision to launch the foundation at Harvard was somewhat serendipitous, according to Kathleen McCartney, dean of HGSE and Gerald S. Lesser Professor in Early Childhood Development, who spoke at the start of the event. HGSE had already planned to invite Gaga to an Askwith Forum to celebrate her ongoing work in anti-bullying and youth-empowerment advocacy before it knew of the foundation, McCartney said.
“All of us who care about young people are fortunate to have Lady Gaga getting us on the right track,” McCartney said. “We’re so proud she has chosen to launch her foundation today at Harvard.”
The singer and her mother took part in other events on campus Wednesday organized around the foundation launch. Germanotta visited Harvard Law School in the morning to participate in a discussion with more than 75 researchers, activists, teachers, and funders around the topic of youth empowerment. Later in the day, Gaga and her mother stopped at HGSE, where they took part in an anti-bullying summit that included students from Massachusetts and California.
The foundation was created, its website states, “to foster a more accepting society, where differences are embraced and individuality is celebrated,” and it is “dedicated to creating a safe community that helps connect young people with the skills and opportunities they need to build a braver, kinder world.
“This is the beginning of a journey that we will all take together,” said Germanotta.
It was also a dream come true for a select group of Gaga’s fans. Boston-area high schoolers and student leaders from the California Endowment’s Building Healthy Communities Program (a sponsor of BTWF along with the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation) lined the front rows of the event.

Mitt Romney holds Google+ Hangout
Tuesday's is first in series of Hangouts with GOP presidential candidates
By Sharon Gaudin
March 20, 2012 02:59 PM ET3 Comments.Com puterworld - Just as voters in Illinois are heading to the polls to cast their votes in the Republican primary today, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is participating in a Google+ hangout.
Dubbing the event "Hang out with Mitt," the live-streaming discussion is being held on Romney's Google+ page and on YouTube.
According to Steve Grove, head of Community Partnerships with Google+, this is the first in a series of Hangouts that will include all of the GOP presidential hopefuls.
"In American politics, there's nothing quite so frantic or fast-paced as a presidential campaign," wrote Grove in a blog post. "Short campaign stops and relentless travel schedules can make it difficult for candidates to sit down with supporters and discuss the issues. Google+ Hangouts have made that a little bit easier, providing new ways for politicians, political organizations, advocates and campaigners to connect directly over video to share information online."
Google+ users can pose their questions by using the #AskMitt hash tag on the social network.
The Republicans aren't the first to come up with the idea.
In January, President Barack Obama participated in a Google+ Hangout, following his State of the Union address |

Watson got lucky said... April 08, 2012 @ 8:13:55 PM EST

AUGUSTA, Ga. — The Masters tournament involves approximately 100 players taking a total of around 20,000 strokes. But in the end, it came down to just two: Louis Oosthuizen's astonishing albatross on No. 2, and Bubba Watson's ungodly pop-fly wedge shot from the woods on the second hole of a playoff. Both shots are now part of Masters lore, but only one man won a green jacket.
The Masters that began with so many players finished up with just two, Oosthuizen and Watson, in a sudden-death playoff. Both players got good looks at a birdie on 18, with Watson barely missing a Masters-winning putt. Possibly rattled by that, Watson stuck his tee shot on No. 10 into the deep woods right of the green, but then uncorked a shot not even a video-game player could imagine: a straight-up wedge that landed within 15 feet for birdie. Needing two shots to win, Watson put his first putt close then tapped in his second for his first major win.
Oosthuizen played a largely undistinguished round of golf, with one notable exception: a 3-under double eagle on the second hole that surely ranks as one of the greatest shots in Masters history. The 260-yard shot was enough to keep the field at bay for most of the round, and enough to give Oosthuizen a little room to waver through the course of the round. He steadied himself on the back nine, bringing home the same -10 that he'd staked himself to on the second hole.
Once again, Watson found himself in a playoff for a major championship. In 2010, he fell to Martin Kaymer in the PGA Championship. This year, there would be no such fade.
The conventional wisdom was that Watson would either shoot in the low 60s or the high 70s, no middle ground. And indeed, he seemed on the verge of losing control right from the start, griping at the air en route to bogeying the very first hole. But he settled down, surrendering only one stroke the rest of the way and putting on a spectacular four-birdie run from Nos. 13 to 16. That was enough to put him 10-under and into a tie for the lead, a tie that would hold up into the playoff.
Phil Mickelson, the favorite coming into the day, played 17 solid holes at a level good enough to stay in the hunt, if not own it. The problem was the fourth, where he pile-drove a shot into the side of a grandstand and then needed two right-handed shots (Mickelson is left-handed) to get it free of the dense jungle growth. He carded a triple-bogey 7, falling from 8-under to 5-under. And although he wouldn't bogey another shot, he left too many putts too short. He finished right where he started, at -8, staring up an impassable two-stroke incline at the leaders.
Other highlights included two aces at No. 16, carded by Bo Van Pelt and Adam Scott, and Van Pelt's astonishing 8-under run to tie a Masters record. Lee Westwood didn't do his usual major fade, but his 4-under day to get to -8 simply wasn't enough. Matt Kuchar and 54-hole leader Peter Hanson both took turns at the lead, but couldn't hold. And Tiger Woods? A 2-over 74 to finish a dismal +5.
In the end, though, the final lingering image of this Masters was a tearful Bubba Watson, embracing his mother as the last of the light faded from the day. He'd finally broken into the ranks of golf's major winners with a well-deserved, hard-earned victory, and there was little more to do at that moment than weep in gratitude.

Pay-Per-Click Advertising for Political Campaigns Takes Off in 2012 for American Land Trusts/Trust Inc.
http://mittromneyapps.com/
PPC advertising on search engines is an extremely efficient and highly customizable way to directly target potential voters. Ads are triggered by certain keywords in this case primarily the names of the contenders and the advertiser pays only if a user clicks on the ad. Ads can be targeted geographically, by state, county, city as well as by language (English/Spanish). Changes can be made within minutes by an experienced digital marketing agency.
This method will lead to the most effective tagline and ad text for the campaign and 2012 politicians looking to stand out and win the election.
Search engine users are the best focus group that political campaigns can find in an instant, because they represent a random sample of potential voters and they are completely unaware that they are part of a test group. The clickthrough rate for the ad variations will indicate which ad message resonates most with the public. The most successful tagline/texted mobi on Google could then also be incorporated into print campaigns, press releases, etc.
In 2012, we will be taking a special interest in Pay-Per-Click advertising for political campaigns, says Stan Krol admin, We feel this will be the difference in some close elections and want to help boost campaigns using digital marketing strategies and get politicians on Google for their 2012 campaigns.
Political advertising on Google is also important as it can target different geographic regions. The political pay-per-click experts at MittApp.com will help your campaign stand out, and give you a competitive advantage whether you are running for a local election or a national election like congress, senate, or more.

Santorum adviser insists he will rally behind Romney
Posted by
CNN's Ashley Killough
(CNN) – John Brabender, an adviser to Rick Santorum, gave more details Tuesday night about the hours leading up to Santorum’s announcement to suspend his presidential campaign.
In an interview on CNN’s “John King, USA,” Brabender said he called Mitt Romney’s campaign manager, Matt Rhoades, Monday night to relay the news that Santorum would leave the race the following day.
– Follow the Ticker on Twitter: @PoliticalTicker
“We had a great conversation. We expressed that the senator would be getting out and that we do want to help the Romney campaign,” Brabender told CNN Chief National Correspondent John King. “It was suggested that we have the two candidates talk to each other, which they did this morning.”
He added that Romney recommended to Santorum the two meet soon to talk about “ways in which Rick Santorum could help.”
Responding to questions about Santorum not mentioning Romney in his exit speech, Brabender cautioned people against reading too much into it.
“Rick felt that it was very important to have a narrative that shares why he was suspending his campaign and all the good that the campaign did, and also make it clear that Rick Santorum is going to be a passionate fighter and a loud voice for conservative causes,” Brabender said.
While the rival candidates often engaged in scathing attacks as they battled for delegates, Brabender maintained Santorum would ultimately rally behind Romney in the general election.
“Rick has been very clear from Day One that he would unify behind whoever the candidate is, the Republican nominee, because they certainly are a much stronger and better hope for America than Barack Obama,” Brabender said. “And he will do that right now with Mitt Romney.”

Press Release: Texted mobile political donation rulings said...
April 15, 2012 @ 6:56:43 PM EST
Sunday, April 15, 2012 Blog Resources About new rulings/asking for new laws Democrat, Republican political collectors ask FEC to OK texted contributions By Stanley(Stan)Krol Entrepreneur CEO/Texted.mobi created this idea, March 11,2009, unlike super PACS, which under federal law are not supposed to coordinate with canididates. Apr 11 2012 5:32 a.m. The Next idea Mr. Krol has is to try this method with "Bundling" donations. Bundlers are typically well-connected business and banking("Banksters")executives who tap their professional and social media networks for HIGH ROLLER Contributions from wealthy supporters and lobbyists groups per federal laws. The economy may be largely lackluster but the political sector is so flush with cash it appears on the verge of creating a whole new profession: Campaign contribution brokers. That would be the result if the Federal Election Commission approves a bipartisan request that it made public late Wednesday afternoon. Filing on behalf of two campaign consulting groups, one Democrat and one Republican, the blue-chip Washington law firm Arendt Fox urges the FEC to approve a system for texting small contributions to political campaigns that would allow middlemen to collect as much as 50 cents on every donated dollar. The brokers are part of an ingenious and complex financial mechanism designed to overcome objections the FEC raised two years ago, when it shot down an effort to win approval of texted contributions, hotly sought after by political campaigns at the time because of the large sums raised for south Asian tsunami relief through cell phone donations. One of the issues the FEC raised was the amount of time it would take for campaigns to get the money: the commission requires the funds be transfered within 10 days, a deadline that might not be met if the campaigns had to wait for a donor's cell phone bill to be paid. Brokers would solve the problem, the political consultants say, by "buying" the pledge from the campaign and providing cash immediately, then collecting the money from the donors. But because of the uncertainty about whether donors would make good on their offers, there would be a premium: The middlemen would take anywhere from a 30 percent to 50 percent cut under the plan outlined in the filing to the FEC. One company that is ready to provide such a service, m-Qube, joined the request to the FEC. Brett Kappel, one of the lawyers who wrote the brief, says m-Qube already serves as a phone donation "aggregator" for charities. The other two firms requesting approval of texted contributions are ArmourMedia, which lists the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee among its clients, and Red Blue T LLC, described in the letter to the FEC as "a political consulting firm whose principals have advised Republican presidential and congressional campaigns." Individuals would be limited to giving $50 or less a month to any one political committee via text. Kappel predicted that most donations would come in amounts of $10. Supporters of the proposal argue its a way to bring the political money game into the digital arena and to engage young people. "Younger people like my children live on their phones," Kappel said. He added that President Obama's campaign, with its large database of small donors, could be a big beneficiary of a favorable decision by the FEC. "I should think they would want this request to go through," he said. The FEC has 60 days to issue a draft ruling on the request. Man aces hole-in-one contest, but doesn't get paid

HELENA, Mont. (AP) — Troy Peissig's surprise at acing an $18,000 hole-in-one contest at a charity tournament has been replaced by bitter disappointment now that he hasn't been paid a dime nearly two years after making the 170-yard shot.
Now state authorities are intervening, and issued an arrest warrant last week against the operator of an insurance company they say failed to pay up on a policy purchased by the Missoula tournament.
Peissig, a scratch golfer, said it is a case of "how a good situation can go bad quickly."
The Montana commissioner of securities and insurance said Kevin Kolenda of hole-in-won.com has been unresponsive in the case and now faces felony charges. The agency said Kolenda also has failed to pay in other cases around the country, and continues to operate the scam without a license to sell insurance even though he has been sanctioned by regulators in Alabama, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Nevada, North Carolina, and Washington.
Montana commissioner Monica Lindeen's office said it is highly uncommon to file felony charges — with an arrest warrant — against an insurance company. Usually disputes on unpaid claims are handled with fines or other administrative actions.
But the Montana regulators said they moved aggressively in order to stop Kolenda from selling the insurance all over the country, despite not holding a license to do so.
"We want to make sure these companies aren't getting a gimme when it comes to paying these claims," said Lindeen, who suggested people check first with regulators that sellers of such insurance are licensed and registered with state authorities.
Kolenda did not return a call Tuesday from The Associated Press seeking comment.
In a letter Kolenda sent to the tournament sponsor denying the claim, he claimed the hole was too short and violated the 165-yard minimum in the policy contract. Kolenda referenced the 130-yard length noted on the Missoula Country Club's standard score card.
But state investigators and local police determined the Missoula Country Club had indeed lengthened the hole for the tournament. Investigators said Kolenda ignored the witness statements and evidence provided by the tournament host.
Peissig had previously hit three hole-in-ones prior to stepping to the tee box on the 12th hole at the Missoula Country Club in August 2010. He had even nailed one on that exact hole.
The 30-year-old former golf teacher said there were "some ace rumblings" in his group before he hit the 7-iron shot — which landed a couple feet in front of the hole, checked up and rolled in.
"When I made that ace, I was stoked. I was pumped. That was really cool to have that happen," said Peissig. "Then it all went south."
The company failed to call the impartial judges to the shot for months, and then misrepresented their statements, Peissig said. The new father said the company even called him in early 2011 to say the money was on the way, only to send a rejection letter several months later.
"The money would be fantastic. My wife and I, we are a young family," said Peissig, who isn't counting on getting the money at this point. "At the same time, if there was a way for this hole-in-one company to not do this again to someone else, that would be just awesome."
